Okay not nerds, just anyone that knows more about a computer than me (Which is a lot of you).

I've got a wired network at my house, so if I take one of those USB wireless adapters...

Like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833150021

And plug it into my computer that already has a internet connection. Would that allow me to connect to that wireless connection with a laptop that had a wireless card?

What I'm really trying to ask is... Do those little USB Wireless adapters broadcast a wireless signal as well as receive it, or not?

Thanks,

~JŠ

Should be a 2 way connection. I haven't seen one that isn't.

well if you bought that wireless usb port, and if you have interent even hooked thru a modem, and lan line, most lap tops could pick up that signal coming from the modem just thru the air waves.... or you could just get a router, and get a lan line card for your lap top if it doesn't have one. and plug it up, but you can't move around with it.... but since you want wireless, just get a wireless setup? comes with the attenna and normally a couple recievers.... you can hook to your desktop computer and your lap top.... or you could just try to make since of what i just said cuz me reading it over is confusing....

You'd be better off getting a small switch and a WAP. Set the laptop up via wireless with the WAP, which is plugged into the switch along with your wired computer.

:werd:

However, you can get two wireless cards and put them in peer-to-peer mode, then setup Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with the Internet connection.

See this is kind of what I'm thinking of. Because to be honest. It's not a laptop that I'm trying to get a connection on. It's a PSP wich has a wireless 802.11b adapter built into it. So That's why I was wondering if I got one of these little USB adapters and plugged it into the computer at my work (Which already has a connection on it) would it allow my PSP to see a hotspot that it would be able to connect to, to browse the internet.

Eh, hopefully that made it a bit more clear.

your PSP may not have the software or architecture built in to do peer-to-peer networking, if the software restricts it. Again, you're better off getting a dedicated access point, and having your PSP be a client to that access point, and then it can surf the internet.
Since you don't own the computer at work (I'm assuming), and if you're not in IT, I would ask IT first before adding a "hotspot" of any kind to their network. You might just open the door for hackers into your office network. One virus, piece of spyware, or malicious attack affecting other computers on the network because of your open door will not only get you fired, you might suffer criminal charges for it as well... not a smart move.

Our IT department has a strict policy about that kind of shit, and doesn't take it lightly AT ALL... I imagine a company that deals with sensitive information, just like mine, will not be lenient.

what router are you using..... You have wireless " G " USB connector and could possibly have different wireless tech. You could possibly outta range... You could have so many issues its hard to say. I would see if there is password on IP.
Tell us more to figure it out. Can also be firmware update issue.
