I recentally ran a 15.8 sec 1/4 mile at bandimere with my hardtop on. Im looking to go to a test and tune and was thinking about running without my hardtop. Technically, If i remove it, ill save 50 lbs. but be less aerodynamically efficient. My question is, which is more benifficial; Losing 50 lbs.? or keeping the top on for aerodynamic purposes?

You're not going fast enough at the end of the 1/4 with a 15.8 to have the top off make much of a difference. However, it's theorized that for every 100 pounds you remove, that's 1/10th of a second off your time. So you MIGHT pull a 15.75 with the top off.
But, props on the ET... my Celica GT-S ran a 15.5

Im aiming 15.5 this time, being its at night and it'll be much cooler, and that was my first time ever racing in my life with medioker launches. did I mention that I weighed the car alone in @ 2095 lbs.;)
Thats exactally what i was thinking, im not fast enough for it ot matter aerodynamically.
Is it possible that it could fubar up your launch by removing some rigidity from the frame? Hell, maybe it'll make it better like when Camaro/Mustang guys disconnect their front sway bars.

Good point, I guess we'll see about that one. Hope it works to my advantage.

2095?! Holy shit. Imagine what a 4AGE or a 2ZZ-GE would do with a car that light. :D
My AllTrac weighs 3210... :(

For now im gonna drop another 25 reasonable miscalaneous lbs. + the 50 lbs from the Hardtop and be down to 2020 For the test and tune. Ill post next wednsday night with my hopefully improved times.

Goddamn I need to learn how to launch, I run a 15.7@90 and you run a 15.8@85. Good job on your launch.
