Im about to buy a sports car and i dont know which to get and what motor to put in. I was either thinking about an Eclipse or a 240sx. If I get the 240 the obvious SR20 or the CA18 are options or if i get the eclipse i have no idea what motor to but in. The eclipse would be a gst most likely i would never buy and rs or gs. What do yall think?

The only "swap" worth doing into the Eclipse is a stroker engine with a 4G64 crank and the appropriate rods and crank, bumps it up to 2.3L. You simply do not need swaps with DSMs to make big power. Hell, the fastest DSMs in the world are running 2.0 liters.

And personally I wouldn't touch an SR20DET, boosting the KA24DE is the way to go. No replacement for displacement, and I would not willingly give up 0.4 liters.

And by the way, get a GSX, not a GST. Once you start making good power, you'll hate FWD. Hell, even at stock power levels the lack of traction is comical.

Buy a '61 Austin Healey Sprite and swap a 2nd gen RX-7 motor and rear suspension into it. You will be both cool and badass:king:

240s are fun little cars, i'd go with that.

GSXs are more fun. Especially when you're making gobs of power easily on a stock engine and the roads are wet/icy/snowy/etc.

I've owned both, first gen AWD DSM's are the best bang per buck vehicles around, period. And with just a couple hundred bucks they pack one hell of a punch.

And now someone who knows nothing about DSMs is goig to chime in with something asinine and totally unfounded such as "yeah, until it breaks, loLerskat3s!!!one!1"

I think I heard my cue!

Can a DSM drivetrain be made reliable and daily drivable for 400-500 HP? And what is required?

lol, i done started somethan. i dont plan to mod extensively just around 300-400hp and yea a daily driver. which is why a gst wouldnt hurt so much. im not a fan of FWD but its not as hard to find either.

At those power levels, you actually don't need much of anything. The 4 bolt rear axles will stand up to that abuse LOTS better than the 3 bolts, but that's a conversion that can be done for about $50 in junk yard parts. Other than that everything should take that power level without any trouble, however if you're revving higher you may find the stock synchros are unable to keep up, slowing down your shifting a bit. But really you can leave everything but the clutch bone stock if you have the 4 bolt rear end :)

if you want more than stock power, definately go for the GSX. I cannot emphasize that enough, that 3-400HP won't do you any good when you can't keep it on the pavement.

go with the 240, my roommate has one with sr20 and turbo upgrade, they are well worth the money. in my opinion its the best bang for the buck. even with stock turbo on them.

Sorry I am not a dsm fan... But I would def go w/ the 240 and build the ka24 instead of swapping the sr20det.. put the money into the ka which is a kick a$$ motor...
