I woke up this morning to the sound of my power supply exploding on my athlon. Ok well not exploding, but it was shooting sparks everywhere. Luckily I swapped power supplies and nothing was fried on my motherboard or anything. The bad part is that I had to take the power supply from my linux box that I was having so much fun with. Guess it's time to order a new one :)

yikes is right. wow, I've never heard of that happening before. hmm, depending on the quality you want to get and how much you want to spend, this place: http://advertisers.computoredge.com/codisplay/JENN.htm has some very decent prices on power supplies... I think I have two or three of them and haven't had a problem with a single one of them yet.

damn...did you get a powersurge or something? never heard of a powersupply just going nuts like that for no reason. perhaps it was being maxed out? I know the powersupply I'm using on my AMD Athlon Palamino 1600 is 350watts.
damn that sucks man...I hate computers but unfortunatly my life would be something of a bore without them

if you run enuf power thru it...sooner or later you will burn power supplies up. I've averaged about one a year...every year. I think its the beast rig that eats them..too much shit running in that case. My current one is a 400W seems to be hanging pretty well...guess we'll see.
The other 4 I've fried have all gone quietly...one with smoke. The others just died. :(

I've got a 400 in my full tower too, and it's handling it just fine. I had a 300 in there before and it was running everything for about a year... Then inconsistent crashes would happen here and there, and the machine would automatically reboot itself... It pissed me off so bad. Then one day it just died, and that was that, so I got the 400.
