View Full Version : Comp Can't Recognize Both CD ROM Drives
So I installed a new hard drive, that all works, it works with one of the CD Rom drives. Now when I plug in both CD Rom drives with the same ribbon it wont recognize either. But plug in only one, it works, any ideas? And Im pretty much an idiot about all this hardware stuff...so may have to use small words with me.
You probably don't have the master/slave pins set properly.. you more than likely have both CD drives set as master. One needs to be master, one slave. Look on the back of the CD drives where the bare pins are and see if the little clip is set in the same position on both.. refer to the manual of the cd drives (online or paper) and they should show which pins are which.

Make sure they're both jumpered as slaves.
Make sure they're both jumpered as slaves.
Shouldn't one be master, one slave?

Sometimes, I've seen certain systems FREAK OUT if you have 2 drives from the same OEM on the same channel - otherwise, try setting them both to CS (cable select) or master (for the one on the end of the cable) and slave for the middle one. Otherwise..maybe you have a bad drive?

Yeah, just set one as master and the other as slave. Also make sure that you have the ribbon plugged in properly (sometimes they aren't keyed and can end up being plugged in upside-down).
Got it, for such advanced things as computers...you wouldn't think a piece of plastic smaller than a crumb was screwing everything up. Thanks for the help.

I set everything to CS and let the chain do the Master or Slave.
If it is a SATA and ATA I use the BIOS to control the boot, but ^ same senario applys.
