Ok here goes, 94 Del sol w/99 gsr swap. I would like to think of my self as knowledgeable as far as Hondas go I have been working on them for 13 years.
OK, Del sol was running perfectly on Saturday, Then I decided to beat up on it a little, It was still running great until about 2 blocks from home it started stuttering, Upon inspection I knowticed a spark plug wire had come off the distributor. I plugged it back in and it seemed to hesitate but not to bad when you would rev it up. The next morning I was following the car when it let out a back fire like you have never heard, The car did start back up but it didn't seem to happy about it. I drove the car to work from there and it stalled once but started back up quickly and I was on my way, I did try to keep the rpm's up at this time.
At work I replaced the plugs with the thought of a fouled plug, I tried to drive the car to a local shop and spent 3 hours in the sun waiting for a tow.
When it died I was on a long down hill and I had lots of time to try to restart the car with out any luck. It did seem like it did better w/o touching the gas but by the time I figured that out I ran out of hill.
At the shop we tried every thing, you could get a little better results with starting fluid but never any thing that sounded like a car starting.
I might want to list every thing we checked.
Distributor "Changed"
Main Relay "Changed"
ECU "Changed"
TPS "Throttle body" "Changed"
MAP "Changed"
THE GAS "Changed" "not kidding"
Fuel Pressure Regulator "Changed"
White thing "nut holding the fuel line to the rail" "Changed"
Injectors "Changed"
Ignition switch "Changed"
Cap "Changed"
Rotor "Changed"
Wires All oem "Changed"
Plugs x3 times all new NGK "Changed"
Fuel filter "Changed"
BTW we put a gauge on it and we have 40 psi and 35 ish whan running.
The timing belt is right on
Late last night it started for no reason and was running fine except when you would rev it up, It had the hesitation, we had just changed the ECU back to the original when it started. I drove the car home like a mad man.
This morning it would not start again, A lot of starting fluid seemed to do the trick but it was still hesitating, I did notice on the way home the night before that the gauge for the o2 sensor gauge on the pillar would not go to rich when you would floor it and when it went lean you lost power and had to let go of the gas.
It is running now but the hesitation seems worse, you can slowly rev it to 3k and you can mash the gas to 8k sounding like it used to but if you try it any lower it will stall "I did notice that if you held the gas open letting it stall the motor would run backwards for about 5 seconds IMO a long time"
I am losing my mind on this one I can't think of what to try next.
I'm up for Ideas
Any thing
Call me (719) 330-8712 any time ... I'll be up late on this one
Thanks, Jason
