Hey guys, just saying hi.
I randomly found out about this site and it looks pretty cool and active.
I moved to Denver about 2 weeks ago from MI, and so far, I'm loving it here. The roads here are absolutely amazing compared to the flat, boring, and crappy roads in MI!
I drive a TL, and I still have my MI plate, so if you see me, feel free to honk or wave.
Here's a pic of my car (pretty much stock, 'cept for CAI & RSB) I took at Arapahoe National Park (US-40W) recently:

... and that's an understatement.
There aren't too many performance products available for the TL (fwd family sedan, go figure :D ) so no big plans until spring.
And I'm in the DTC area.

Oh and South > North
That was not the case in the Civil War.

I second that! Although, they seem to be fixing some roads, but they are horrible for me :p or my suspension is bad :(

You guys are spoiled if you think CO roads are bad :D
I have a sorta OT question for you guys though.
How bad is the driving condition in the winter? Do I absolutely need snow tires? Any helpful comments/tips? Also, my apartment complex doesn't offer covered parking - just tiny garages where they rape you with $60/mo charge. Is it worth it, or can I do without it? Like I said, I'm from MI, so snow is nothing new.... but I heard CO gets some crazy snow storms.
Oh, and please tell me which areas to avoid (denver vicinity)... I know about the gay area, but are there other areas I should avoid at all cost?
Heh, that's it for now. tia.

Heh, that's it for now. tia.roads aren't all that bad, but i hope you have a clear bra on our front end. there maybe 2 snow storms that get bad enough where you can't make it out of your drive way. Get the snow tires if you want, but i've been doing alright the in the snow with my all seasons, ever since i start driving back in 96. i even managed to last a whole season on all season tires with only about 30%tread on my bmw.
If you know how to drive in the snow, you should be fine. but just in case, what sort of tires do you currently have on your TL? the yoko s306's and yk420's hold up alot better in the snow then the stock michellin mxv4's that came on the accord

I'm debating between getting different winter/summer sets and getting good all seasons (most likely pzero neros). The stock tires are the worst I've had... Bridgestone Turanza EL42's, but since I only have about 11k or so, I was hoping I could get by this winter. It is a FWD, afterall.
I don't have a clearbra... I have a few small chips, so I don't think I'll be getting it done anytime soon. I heard they use sand in the winter, so I was just gonna get a full snow bra for the winter.

yeah, in that case, just get a full bra for you car. and i guess be prepared to go through 1 wind shield a year.
Aracheon
08-30-2005, 01:43 PM
Heh, yep... 1 windshield a year, and get SOMETHING to cover the front of that car. Every car I've ever owned has had the front end beaten all to hell because of rocks in the winter time.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info.also check with your insurance agent. after talking to my old insurance rep, she told me that through farmers, she told me i can get windshields replaced throught my policy for 100 bucks, but that's limited to 1 per year. it was like an extra 20 bucks that i paid every 6 months. I've even heard of some people getting 1 free windshield replacement through their insurance company, but i don't remember which company does it.

Thx for the tips.. I already know about my insurance, though... I had to get my dad's SUV's windshield replaced a while back, and he had to pay his $50 deductible. I have my insurance policy under my dad's through AAA Mich, but my deductible is set at like $250... I dunno if it's worth changing the deductible, cuz I'm already paying 1700~ every 6 months, which is killing me as it is. Heh I miss having my parents taking care of that shit.

or you can find someone at elite or something and be good friends with them. I didn't even bother going through my insurance company last time i needed to changed the windshield on my accord. got it done for 80 bucks. :)

Wanna hook me up, Steve? I need a new windshield on the Integra.
Steve_C
08-31-2005, 10:40 AM
that was almost 2 years ago. i've been trying to find his #, but no luck. and since i quit my old job, i don't get to see if he comes in anymore, just gotta rely on my brother to spot him out. cause justin, hung, and myself need new windshields.

Aren't there places that repair windshields? I mean when it's just a chip or a small crack. Or are these rocks on the road so damn big that it leaves a huge crack on impact?
Too bad these 3M PPF can't be used on windshields...
Steve_C
08-31-2005, 11:31 AM
the repair places charge between 20-40 bucks for the chips. and it only works if you get the chip taken care of before it spreads. but since we're a mile up, we get so much sun during the winter, that the constant change in temp plus contrasting cold air/bright sun, that usually chips/cracks spread quick

I've got a crack that goes across the entire thing, and then another separate one that hooks around on the driver's side. The whole thing needs replacing.
Heh, I'm in the Tech Center also :) If you see a red/black Aprilia around, that's me;)

I'll keep an eye out for ya, Milo... hope you don't easily get scared by car horns. :D
I have a rather odd question... are drugs "big" in Colorado (more specifically Denver area)? I'm not a druggie/addict or anything... just curious about availability and cops/laws.

Also make sure to wash the bottom, and engine compartment of your car really well at least once after the winter. The magcloride(spelling?) plays hell on electrical systems. Our tractor trailers here at my job show how bad that stuff eats through wires.

i thought they were moving away from magnesium chloride to some other compound, if they haven't done so already?
