ATM-2654 2 1/16 in. diameter, black face, white digits, 0 to 1,600 degrees F, electric, Z-Series, Street EGT kit ... This mechanical Z-series gauge has a black face with white digits and a black bezel. It features a 270 degree sweep dial face for maximum legibility and a compact design that makes it an ideal choice for any application. Includes exhaust probe.

I was thinking about getting one to replace my A/F guage. What's your recommendation??... summit is selling them for $111 but they are on BackOrder.

Also, my 1 1/16th in. diameter vacuum/boost gauge doesn't set at 0. It was that way in the packaging, but I thought maybe hooking it up would fix it... not so... anybody know how to resolve this?? It shows my max boost is 4 PSI.. BULLSHIT!!

You can just shove a small screwdriver in the back through the light hole. Push on the spring and the gauge will read 0. Just don't bend the spring too much or it will be off the other way. I did that on mine, worked great.

how much boost are you running?

6 for right now. at least my old boost gauge read at 0 and and went to about 5.5 in the boost area (high altitude).

I might try that to see if it works. I've already contacted autometer support and they said to just send the gauge back for replacement... what would it hurt sticking a screw driver in there if I do need to send it back :)

Nope, I just had to "recalibrate" mine once, it has been fine ever since. I bought it used and that was the way it was. Fixed it and it has been good for almost 2 years. Much easier than mailing it back and waiting for a new one.

So what about the EGT gauge... would that be better than the A/F gauge I have now?

I always thought that EGT gauges were more for Turbo... but I don't really know a whole lot about superchargers. Why not have both? I would think that would better.

EGT is definetly better than a/f. It tells your exhaust temp(of course) which is more accurate than the stock o2 sensor. I believe you want it to be no hotter than 1400 degrees...or is that 1200????

I'm not happy with A/F gauge because I know how inaccurate it is outside of stoich closed-loop mode. Besides, I like needles pointing to numbers more for some reason.

stupid question but if you have a ETG and lets say you're exhaust temp is too high..............how would you fix this............or do you not need to fix it??

Ok here will be a short lesson on engine tuning. When a car runs lean it runs hotter. The leaner you can run a car the better, but as the temps rise due to leanness detonation occurs and your engine is destroyed. Your exhaust temp tells you in fairly good accuracy how lean or rich you are running. This way if you watch your gauge and notice that the temp is climbing you know that you need to add some more fuel, or vise versa............

That would just mean that yoru car is running to lean. You would need more fuel. I want ot get one I think they are a good way to go for a piece of mind at least....

this is the problem with pyrometers. every one has their own idea of what the temps should be. (this is not slamming you brian) some say that they found a "sweetspot" at xxxx deg. some one even told me that pistons will melt at 1400 deg. well, bullshit i run my Z at 1550 deg. now the gauge reads up to 1600deg. so if i run lean is the peice of shit going to do any good? running lean will put the gauge out of range, what good does that do? honestly, i dont even watch the damn thing anymore i watch my DVOM and the boost gauge. the EGT is a conversation piece:rolleyes: . good thing i spent $250.00 on it. anyway my advice is, tune with your A/F ratio(not the gauge) and then use the EGT to tell if you are running consistant.

A volt meter would be the best way to tune if you are going to use it as a tuning device. I've wanted to hook one up for quite a while. i've even seen guys modify an autometer a/f gauge to read a narrower voltage range which makes them much more accurate.

So what's the concensus, buy an EGT or keep the A/F gauge? It will be used rarely for tuning, but more for consistency.

maybe keep the a/f gauge and hook up a volt meter for tuning. The a/f gauge will tell you if you are in the ballpark and the dvom will help get you more accurate as far as tuning.
