I went to the dealer here yesterday and saw a brand new Civic Type R! It was super fly, I really wish I could afford to buy it and bring it home with me.... I will have pics in this post some time on Tuesday. I brought them with to work, but the disk they are on took a shit, so I have to wait till I get off work and reload them. It was silver, and looks exactly like the pics you all have probably seen. Yes it comes with those 17's, and it is every bit as cool as the photos will show... damn disk

According to motortrend it will be here in 2004, but we shall see about that. I have my doubts as well.

badass hatchie there. Not sure that I'd give up my coupe for the new Si, but I'd really have to think about not trading up for that Type R. Good stuff. :)

I wish! This was the first one they have gotten. It was already sold, so their was no way I could drive it. He didn't even want me to turn it on! But he did let me sit in it and poke around for a while. I drove the regular hatch, pretty nice, the shifter is very different though. I kept reaching down and grabbing air... but it is really nice, it's right next to the steering wheel which is cool.

We have more miles of fun roads than any other country and we always get the watered down version's of Japan's fun cars. I guess they're still making us pay for Hiroshima or for that Michael Keaton movie about the Japanese car maker that came out in the 80s.:D :D

Europe does get the 220hp version of the Focus and they also get the turbo AWD Cosworth Escort. We're still getting screwed.
In Japan they do have a Vette rated at 276hp but they also say the WRX STi has 276hp too but we know better.;)

Am i the only one that thinks the outside and shifter of that monstroncity makes me want to gag. I would never pay any sort of price for that hideous display of a car with so much potential. I dont understand how people can like that and dislike the new neon srt-4. Maybe im just domestic biased.

I agree I dont like the look of the new ctr at all, or the dash mounted shifter, but the motor and seats are badass

I will agree about the shifter, it does look really weird, but until you have used one, I wouldn't knock it. The shifting in the new hatch is awesome! Do you have any pics of the new neon? I havn't seen it yet.

Personally I think both are kinda ugly, the Civic and the Neon. The Neon has tons of power, but its just fugly, the Civic has a good overall package, but once again it's fugly. :(

I've heard from everyone that has driven the new civics that the shifter is awesome mounted up there. It is very different, but I will give it a chance.
As for the looks. I hate the new SI, but love the new type R....

It doesn't seem like it, that is for sure. It was actually sunny two days in a row right when I got here. It has been raining ever since. Guess they probably sell a lot of aquatreds here...:p

I lived in Germany for 4 years and the only time it was sunny more than not was May to August. Boy was it a contrast when we moved to Hawaii.

I have one question..........Why aren't you at a BMW dealership? Or any other car manufacturers..............go test drive a Renault Clio........the one with the engine in the back....or a Peugot 206:D

I have been to a couple dealers, including BMW and Renault. The Renault dealership didn't have any Clio's for me drool over... I did see a 206. It is sweet. They have one called a 206cc wich is a hard top convertible, very cool. There was one in the showroom that was lowered with rims. How cool is that? You can buy a pimped ride brand new from the dealer! Its kind of hard to talk the dealer into letting me drive the cars, but I am working on it. There are TONS of Americans that try and go for joyrides, er I mean test drives. So they are kind of weary about letting a 23 year old drive their cars. The BMWs aren't really that different here, I honestly think the ones I have driven back home might even be better. I used to work at the BMW dealer, so I have kind of developed a callis(sp) to them.

well..I look at the build quality of (most) of the neons I've seen/driven/been in and compare that to my Si, they dont really impress me. There is no way I'd ever own a neon, regardless of how fast they could be.
Also, gotta toally agree with Brian...the normal hatch is kinda plain but that Type R is dead sexy.
People said unleaded fuel, front wheel drive, and imports would never catch on either. Personally, I give kudos to honda for having the balls to try something new. I think a nice close shifter in a car that you are going drive the hell out of would be a good thing? :)

The build quality of Neons was terrible when they first came out. The have since gotten better. Each generation they get better. Im sure the civic wasnt great when it came out. Plus they do what they can to keep the car lighter.

...actually a dash mounted shifter is a very old idea... Honda had it on the first autos that they made. PFI has an S600 that has one. Its pretty crazy. Its smaller than an MG mini

Yep, that is one fly car. The headlights could use a little work, but the rest is badass.
