View Full Version : Finally got the Laser running again.

After pulling the head just to get some broken exhaust manifold studs out, i decided to rebuild it. I got it all done in a parking lot in the cold, that was a pita. Heres the total price list.
$90 - Bolts extracted via VDM machine
$206 - Valve job, replace the cam and valve seals, resurface.
$126 - Head rebuil kit
$65 - Timing belt tentioner
Now it runs like a champ and smokes like whore. Not much smoke comes out the exhaust, its all under hood coming from the turbo area. Im not sure if its just stuff that build up on the turbo or if the turbo is burning oil. I cant be positive cause it doesnt leave that much smoke out the exhaust.
2 things that i do know is that the Turbine Housing and Exhaust manifold both have cracks. But the Turbo still boosts hard.
When the Neon is gone at the end of the month(cross my fingers) Im gonna order a B16g and Evo manifold. All my other mod like exhaust, guages, pocket logger...and so on...are all in the mail.

Well crap, I figured out why its smoking. I drove it today just to check things out and the clip that holds the turbo together in the center(you know between the exhaust and intake sides) has coolent just seeping out. Its enough to drip very constantly.
Well i guess now i have to order that B16g and evo mani tomarrow. This actually sucks because i dont have the money to get it ported or cliped right now.
Can i just plug the hole from the coolant line for now so it can still be driven? Im not worried about messing up the turbo because its already screwed. Thanks

LoL, I thought i would post in both place to see what knowledge i could get. But i guess us Mile high area guys just have to stick together.
I think tomarrow im gonna order a B16g and Evo mani(unported)and talk to FP to see what they have to say about porting and clipping. I might just get it clipped, then port it later when i get the funds. I do plan on moving back to sea level when i get out of the army. I guess my exhuast will have to be the part that waits till the neon gets sold.
Also im gonna remove the coolant lines from the turbo tomarrow too so hopefully it will be drivable.

I just got off the phone with forced performance (awsome shop), and I ordered a B16g Ported/Clipped/34mm wastegate flapper door. And a Evo manifold. That should be here in about 2 weeks.

All i need now is for someone around here to hook me up with a little port job on the evo's collector. It shouldnt take long to do, i just dont have the tools. I didnt have them do it cause it was an extra $95 on top of the $1100 i just spent. Anyone here wanna give me a hand?
