I am starting to plan a mild n\a build for my 96 civic and was wondering what my best options would be as far as price and performance are concerned. I have ruled out turboing the d16 cuz of the high mileage. As far as goals are concerned, i want a fun and reliable daily driver that I could take to the track every once and awhile. I plan on spending about $2500 for the build. I think I definitely want to got with an ls\vtec or b20\vtec setup tuned with uberdata and a b16 tranny. My question is I know the b20 has thin sleeves so is it possible or will I have any issues with a new hone, rings, and pistons (forged aftermarket pistons will put me past my budget)? Or should I stick with the ls block and just get oversized p73 pistons (or whatever is reccommended), arp rod bolts and head studs. Any advice is welcome
Thanks

The problem with the thin sleeves is only with boosted cars. NA wont be an issue.
Pistons shouldnt be much if you are planning to do the work yourself. You could get all the parts you need if you watch the classifieds and EBAY.

Would the JDM ITR OS pistons cost much more to fit onto ls rods (I understand they need to be shaved)? Would I be better off going with another piston for an ls\vtec?
Thanks

For the price of the OEM pistons and the machine work to make them fit you can buy aftermarket forged ones that fit out of the box.

So I'm deciding to use oversized p30 pistons. The overbore is still alright for stock sleeves on an n\a motor right? With a B16 head what ecu should I get. Do I need to get it tuned immediately or can I wait until I get i\h\c\e? Will a vafc be sufficient?
Thanks

VAFC and P72 ECU or P28 should work. The oversize pistons will be fine.

Thanks, I'll be giving you a call soon as soon as I source a head and other misc parts
