Today I was driving home when I saw an older 92-95 body style viper up ahead. I sped up and caught him just as he took the turn from union to austin bluffs. We both got on it hard through the turn and onto the straight. I was surprised to find that he didn't pull on me as I had expected. In fact, I was pulling him in by the top of the gear. We got next to each other and toyed around some more, but nothing big. I chatted with the driver for a bit as we both admired the rides, then we were off our separate ways. Pretty cool experience. I never thought I would be driving a car that could hang with a viper in stock form.
For the record the RT/10 of that generation had
RT/10
Standard Engine 8.0L 400 hp V10
Horsepower 400
Torque (lb-ft) 480
Those year Vipers weren't all that fast I thought. I was under the impression that my Integra could have beaten one with an excellent launch, or from a roll.

No idea. They had 400hp, but I don't know the weight. We only got on it till the top of second (about 80), and he didn't pull at all. I was actually bringing him in before we had to slow down. I may have taken him given more room, who knows. Never raced one before.

I think I recall seeing one at bandi running around a 13.x, but that was a long time ago.

The new Vette is faster than the older Viper was by just a tad according to magazine tests. He's got more torque but you've got more top end.

The top end pull really surprised me in the new vette. I expected it to be like most v8's and pull like crazy then fall flat on its face. This car definitely likes rpms

The new vettes are sweet... they are cool and fast and they have a ton of raw power.

Most Vipers I have seen and raced at Bandi run low 14's, every now and then they will run 13's.
I think most people dont realize how slow the stock "high horsepower" american cars are up here.

Vipers seem to be really sensitive to atmospheric conditions, here at sea level they run 11-12's, but on a really hot and humid day I can spank one. On a cool, dry day, probably not. I'm glad my favorite drag strip is out in the swamp.
The only Vipers I've ever seen run lower than a 14 were modded, but that's just because the guys don't ever get on it. I've seen the newest Viper run a 14.00. It makes me sad.

Wow, that sucks! I'd be pissed if I bought a Viper and it was slow as hell. Makes me glad I live down here.

Makes me glad I live up here because I can stomp $80k cars. (that was a $$ guestimate)
