vi is just an old cryptic editor for people who want to think they are l33t. There are people who actually accomplish things, and there are people who waste twice as much time just to show off how they can use some cryptic obsolete POS that most people wont even bother with.

Who knew this was such an accurate portrayal of Tobi on his computer? That's why we have Bedlam on speed dial.

I've always laughed when I see someone using vi... it's like only 30% of their keystrokes actually make it onto the screen...

oh, comeon, vi is cool. i never use it, but i have to say that if you remember that when it first appeared, there were only things like sed! and vi was a breakthrough in a way, i think. and the fact that people still remember it exists like 30 years after the fact, and even use it sometimes, does mean something.

VI is bad ass...if you know the short cuts, you can do damn near everything with it.
Vim > Vi >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Emacs < Nano

Yes but the point is you can do everything with emacs much much easier...

One of our ex employees used to use vi as his CLI interface and that guy could do some of the niftyiest shit, stupid fast lol.
It's just a matter of personal preference of course, but he showed me that Vi really did have tons of crazy short cuts that I found extremely useful in doing some of the oddest and most redudant stuff in like no time at all.
But of course you have to become accustomed to the shortcust and tech yourself how to like simply 'type' in Vi. Wayyy to much work for most people and I'll be the first to admit that it's not easy, but you can end up being extremely quick on the CLI, and just do insane shit on the CLI. It takes scripting to a new level. But then again our ex unix/linux guy forgot more about Vi than i hope to learn lol.
I think for me when I see emacs it's like information overload, and whereas vi is like direct, only u need to be intimate with like 155,000 keyboard shortcuts lol.
Eitherway, i'd take my linux complexities and tools over windows anyday :D
Sooner or later i'm gonna need to sitdown and learn emacs.
