View Full Version : Crap on the back of the throttle valve

I wash cleaning my air filter the other day and I opened the throttle valve and stuck my finger in and wiped the back side of the valve. There was all this oil/grime on it. I would assume that that crap going into my supercharger/engine is not good.
I think I need a catch can. Does anyone know what can i should get? Brian suggested earlier a Jaz can. Also, what exactly is involved in putting one on my car?

Yep thats the oil going back through. Just imagine what the rotors of your supercharger look like :( .... I have the smallest jaz catch can they make I believe. Basically it has two inlets. One goes to your valve cover . The second one is a bit more difficult. You will need to remove the pcv valve from the oil separator box under the manifold. There is a T in this line so that both can be sucked into the blower. Remove the T. Take the pcv valve out and drill the spring out of it so it is always open and venting otherwise nothing will happen. Route this line back to the other side of the catch can and you are done. It's probably not as hard as my description. I had my blower off a couple months ago to upgrade to 10 psi, and it was as clean as the day I put it on :)

I have a catchcan, but I think it's hooked up wrong. I just have it going from the intake to the valve cover. It's not connected to the PCV valve, but from the way it looks, I haven't been getting any oil in the intake tract lately, where as I could tell there was oil getting into the intake tract before I got the SC on... there was a long black line of oil coming out of the end of the AEM CAI at the time. I need someone to look it over and help it out if it's not hooked up right.

I can check it out at the next luncheon. If you ahve it hooked to the valve cover you are helping half the problem. As you stated there is no longer oil in the intake. The pcv line is connected straight to the supercharger, so it's probably sucking oil into your supercharger.

That's just perfect! I'll need to get that fixed.

I can try and snap some pictures of my setup if you want to get it fixed right away. It's a real simple fix. Just a pain to get to at first.

That would be great if you could. I'd appreciate it when you get the time.

That stuff will never entirely go away, thats just the nature of the internal combustion engine. The key is not to let it build up. Most of it caused by fuel vapors trapped in the engine after it is shut off, it wont really cause any damage, its just ugly.

I not sure what the pcv valve is. Pictures would definitely help. Also how hard is it to install. Do I have to remove the blower to get to the pcv valve?
As far as materials go
1. Jaz catch can
2. some kind of tubing
3. plug for the nipple in the intake tube
4. Mounting screws/brackets?
5. anything else
Jason
I'm glad it won't do any damage. I should have done something years ago.

you need some of that stuff there to make a good seal between the plate and the body. dont take it all off or you will lose your seal. gunk is good, oil is bad.
