Ok, so I posted this in the FWD forum and they wern't to happy. Can someone help me find the list of the parts I need for the AWD conversion from an eclipse GST to a GSX?

It's too much money, just buy an AWD car.

well I have a GST and im getting a donor car for about $1500. I just want to know what parts I need to switch and what parts on the donor car I need to check for damage and wear. I knew someone at one time with a spider that did it and said it wasn't that bad.

Why don't you just switch the motor into the doner car? Trust me, this is not a road you want to go down. It's not worth it, I'm telling you.

:werd:

If you want AWD start with AWD. A motor swap is a lot easier than trying to put a rear drive subframe into a car that was never made to recieve it.

why don't you sell your gst and the donor car and pick up a 3000gt vr4 since your posting about awd conversion plus the vr4's engine

I'm thinking maybe he meant the galant vr4, in which case it's almost the same. Either way, the only reason I can see anyone possibly thinking of this is if you really wanted a awd spyder. But even then, this is way too much work. F that

nah, on the other post he stated he wanted the 3000gt vr4's engine. even if he wanted a awd spyder, i'm sure he can pick up the 3000gt spyder vr-4 for far less money and headache of shoe horning a vr-4 engine and retrofitting the awd on to a fwd

Do what you want man. If you suceed, good for you. Make sure to cough up splenty of Dough because that transformation is not cheap at all. Like other said, buy one that's already come w/AWD turbo.
Let's see put a VR-4 motor in a GST and than switch it to an AWD. Wow an AWD VR4 Eclipse and wow look at what's next to it a AWD VR4. The only different between these two is the body and you're going to go through all that trouble for that?
Well, Good luck on the project JESSIE JAME!!!

That is what many people say before doing a doomed project.

Well the difference between the 2 is the obvious weight difference.

Well the difference between the 2 is the obvious weight difference.well why not put the money that you would waste from the engine/drivetrain swap and make drastic weight reductions to your car?

And adding the VR-4 tranny, and engine, plus the reinforcements needed to do this pushes it up to near VR-4 weight. It doesn't seem to be to hard to remove a lot of weight from VR-4's. I've seen some that are near 3500 lbs here in CO.

And where do you think that weight difference comes from? Yeah, a lot of it is in the drivetrain. That which is not is in luxury items, such as 8 million way power seats, digital climate control, lots of sound deadening, a button that makes the exhaust quiet, motorized front and rear spoliers, active electronic suspension and 4WS, the list goes on. You can spend an afternoon and make a car that's a whole foot wider than a DSM weigh the same for a lot less work. For how much shit is packed into a VR-4, they're quite light.

Also, you can't beat the women back from a VR-4.

But what do I know about these cars? Sounds like a worthwhile project, practical, too

If you want to do something that not many people have done, why are you trying to build something that the factory built? Why not buy something completely obscure, like a Matra-Simca Bagheera, and drop a turboed BMW V12 into it? Couldn't cost much more than making an AWD DSM out of a FWD one.
