When you're in the car, you can tell the difference between burning the tires and burning the clutch. The officials just stand there enjoying the burnout instead of telling the kid his tires arent spinning. I dont understand why the crowd is applauding when they should just laugh the kid off the track. Ah well, it's entertainment for me when stupid ricers do stupid things. <- Weston-like quote

Well, more or less, he held the clutch right at slipping point and gunned it. You should just drop the clutch, use the ebrake and mash on the gas.

The kid is trying to do a burnout. Instead of letting the clutch out fast, he probably slipped it. In doing that, his clutch is now in slip mode and since he's stays on the gas pretty hard, the clutch doesnt have a chance to grip. If he was a little more experienced with doing burnouts, he would know that the tires arent spinning but his clutch is getting burned just by the feel of it.

Can someone explain exactly what happened, or what he did wrong for a car nOOb?

Yikes... I got my first day at the track tommorow... hopefully I don't do that bad :-/
