For those of you wanting to try an open track event here is the schedule for the Colorado area. These are open to all cars. Track fees will vary and I suggest you contact the appropriate organizer to find more details as they do have different safety requirements.

As for myself I will be running the NASA and CECA events. One cool thing about the NASA event is they offer high performance driving school where you drive your car and you get an instruction on how to find the line around the track. Very fun and educational. As a bonus you are also fully covered by your normal auto insurance as it is a driving school.

Also don't worry about what car you drive. It is about the driving skills you learn not the performance of the car.

Although it is nice break between sessions to check out some very exotic and fast cars. And if you are nice to people you can even get ride alongs in $100,000+ cars.

I hope the list is aligned properly below as it was a cut and paste job.

So who wants to go to the track?

I am still waiting to find out when NASA is planning their school days and what levels they are offering. Typically they have it at PPIR for a Saturday and a Sunday. This allows lots of track time and and a nice classroom to discuss driving and the track. Last year they just had a beginner class in the spring and another beginner class in the fall. But this year the instructors wanted to put together an intermediate class.

In the beginner class they teach you the best line around the track, where the turn-in, apex and exit point should be on each corner, how to take your exisiting breaking and turn-in point and slowly adjust it to improve your corner speed. Every other session (depending on you) you can have a instructor ride along to point out what you are doing right and wrong. Having 6 different instructors really helps as you get slightly different views and opinions.

All this may sound trival but it is the basics that counts for fast track times. Consider that with my Celica I was able to hang with a Z-06 through the PPIR infield corners showed that the driver of the vette (not part of the class) didn't know how to get around the track quickly. I will not mention what happened on the front and back straights as it ruins the story at this point.

For the Intermediate class the instructors were considering doing some off track braking and skid recovery classes. I hope they get this class going.

Cost of the 2 days was around $220 (don't remember exactly), but considering this is the same cost as the open track with no class room, the school is a bargain. It is more expensive than 2nd Creek but you have to figure which track costs more to rent.

As for driving time, they rotate the different driver groups for lap sessions so you will get just as much seat time as anyone else at the event. This is alot of driving. The class I was at last fall had about 14 drivers with two of them driving S2000's.

Can you tell I am getting psyched for this years open track events?

Okay I have the info for the first Nasa 2 day event at PPIR.

Open track for one day $145.
Open track 2 days $260
Beginning driving school (Sat) $175
Advanced driving school (Sun) $175
Both days driving school $350

Driving suit rental $25

Not a cheap event unless you are comparing it to the BMW driving event. However it is fun and you do learn how to go fast around the track.

I have the electronic version of the registration form but have no way of posting it here but I can email it if you want it. The other place to find more information is to talk to Leslie at www.quickchickracing.com as she is the local organizer of the Nasa events.
