I hate to have to do this but in the last month I have been stood up 4 times on dyno appointments. Now not only is this very annoying, it is very wasteful and time consuming on my part. So I have been racking my brain trying to figure out a way to combat this inconsiderate issue and all I can come up with is prepay sort of deal. So from now on if you are not an existing customer I will be taking a credit card number from you at the time you make an appointment. This card will not be charged at the time but if the appointment is not kept and no prior notice is given of cancellation I will charge a $75 appointment "no-show" fee. Unfortunatly I think this is the only way I can keep people from making an appointment and just not showing up. If you have any input on the matter of a more eficient way of handling such a problem please feel free to comment. Input good or bad is always considered.
Thank You.

It's unfortunate that you have to do something like this but it's a waste of your time as well as the folks at the dyno shop when someone doesnt show up to their appt.

my ownly suggestion is to put a time limit on the prior notice... say 12 hours in advance or something.

Check with your credit card company on how you can do a pre-authorization on peoples cards. Get them to sign an invoice or something for the agreement too..I know colorados credit card laws pretty well. :)

its hard to get someone to sign an invoice whne 99% of my appointments are made by phone.
Scott, Officially it is 24 hours notice, I just didnt put that in the details but I do remind the person making the appointment.
I have tried calling the day before to remind people and most of the time they either cancel at that time because they forgot and made other plans or they say OK and then they dont show up anyway. Oh and this is the best. Last week I had an appointment, called the day before and left a voicemail reminding him of his appointment. Guess what, no show, no call. So monday morning there is a voicemail on my phone. Its HIM! wanting to make an appointment for tuning. What an ASS!

I think its a good idea. Do you get charged for dyno time if its a no show?

Who do you process with? You could always get a voice approval, those drop off in 7-10 buisness days.

What can ya do? Time IS money.
I think it's fair dude, You made the commitment to show for it, they should expect to commit to get in when they say they will. if not you should have every reason to be paid for your time and effort. I agree 100% and if someone has a problem with it .Fuck them..
I love customer service

I can foresee problems with this credit card thing... IE Over the limit, expired etc etc...
Why not just $75 cash to save your self a probable headache?

I would just use this situation to justify buying a dyno.

Thats the thing, becasue I took the card number at the time the appointment was made, the customer now has a vested interest to remember to be there. Instead of just being lazy or forgetful. Just the thought of being charged for nothing will help weed out the slackers. I hope to never have to charge people, I just need something to cut down on the trips to the dyno to sit in a chair watching TV for an hour for free.

I know I'm really late to the BBQ here, but it is a good idea.
The only problem I can foresee is someone disputing the charge to their credit card company. I don't know if you've had to deal with this much, but certain credit card companies really stick it to the business [owner] - especially AMEX. I'm sure you are well versed on your contract/agreement with your credit card processor, but just some food for thought.

It just sucks that people do this...Tobi is a stand up guy and I can see how this can become very frustrating and time consuming. The thing that would piss me off the most is people not showing then wanting him to tune his car...uhhh I'm no genius, but something tells me Tobi isn't going to go 'above and beyond' work ethics or not.
Hope things work out Tobi :) .

SO far since institutuing this policy I have had 2 people back out of the tuning altogether because they did not want to pay up front. I guess it works because they maybe did not want to show up or maybe it doesnt owrk and I lost some money. Either way, I didnt waste any time those days and I found something productive to do in the meantime.
