whats the purpose of a block guard??? is it a worthwhile investment???

It's purpose is to keep the bores of a block from shifting under high load. Open deck blocks aren't supported at the top of the block and thus are free to shift at the top of the bore.

It is worthwhile depending on how much boost you plan on running. It is much cheaper than sleeving, but won't support as much PSI.
