View Full Version : Reverse Clicking in the Kia

This is in the 4x4 Sportage with like 55k miles.

There seems to be some sort of clicking or grinding noise coming from the rear differential.
My dad says it happens sometimes in forward too. It doesnt always happen in reverse though. For example, I just backed it out of the driveway and it did it. 20 minutes later I backed out of a parking spot and it didnt do it. Sounds like there are some pebbles just bouncing around in there. I only heard it for like 5 seconds though.

Does it just need a lube job?
What do you guys think it can be?

Is it a posi or open diff?

Automatic? It's most likely one of the gear select solenoids freaking out. Check the ECU/TCU for codes.

If it's a manual, probably a fucked bearing on the reverse idler gear or a damaged tooth.
