Well... at least it's gonna be reliable. But you might as well give up spending money on that car if you want it fast. Your money would be much better spent elsewhere.

So your saying I should just start with a whole different car?

If you plan on doing anything but driving back and forth to school or work, yes. A 96 Corolla isn't worth your time.
Fast.
Reliable.
Cheap.
^^^Pick 2 of them. You'll never get all 3 in one package.
Want fast and cheap, but unreliable? Buy a DSM.
Want cheap and reliable, but not fast? Buy a Honda.
Want reliable and fast, but not cheap? Buy a new Corvette.

That's because they're not fast. ;)
They can be made fast with a relatively small investment, but then you're still faced with the problem of overcoming the FWD disadvantage. Then of course, you'll wanna be faster, so you'll start spending MORE money. Then shit will break. Then you'll spend MORE money. It's a neverending cycle. :)

Just depends on what you want. 92-95 hatchbacks are relatively cheap and are lightweight. They are easy to swap motors into also. If you dont want to deal with swapping motors, I'd recommend finding a 99-00 civic si. Only problem with those are they are stolen a lot and its hard to find a good condition/stock one.

If you got the money. Keep the Tercel as a daily driven car. Buy a CRX shell put a turbocharge GSR w/100 nitrous (make sure to fix the internal first) Put on some beef Axle and Slick. Take it to the track and blow almost eveyone off. Sure it be one ugly thing but it sure is fast.

300ZX. you can find a good 2+2 for pretty cheap. once you start needing more speed, TT motors are readily available and a swap isnt that difficult.... f this honda crap.
