sorry guys but i have alot of questions, today i saw a b17 motor, thats what it said on the block but the head was vtec? is this the 92-93 gsr motor? should i buy it, its a complete swap but dont know how many miles on it? how do you read tranny's to tell what kind of tranny it is or what car it belongs to? and last but not least.....would an integra (90-93)distributor work with a b16a first gen?
Thanks......

Yes, B17 is the first vtec motor for the integra. Being as old as that motor is, the mileage is probably way up there. I cant remember what tranny it is but it's something similar in gear ratios to a b16 tranny. The tranny has an identifier stamp on it sometimes. It should read YS1, Y21 or something to that extent.

The tranny code is YS1, but the code just means what chassis it came from. All 92-93 trannys are labeled YS1. In order to find out what tranny it acutally is, you have to open the case and start counting the teeth on the gears. The distributor will work if it is a 90-91, but you need to cut one of the mounting points off, or else it will hit the VTEC Solenoid.

The b17 was in production for the first 6 months of the GSR then they went to the b18c
