I have a head stud broken off inside the head. Its the studs that the exhaust manifold is bolted onto the head. I have an exhaust leak and not spooling my turbo enough. None of it is sticking out, it is flush to the edge of the hole. Does anyone know how i can get it out? I have heard that there is a kit to get broken bolts out. Does this kit have to have any part of the bolt sticking out? I dont want to drill it out and rethread it! Oh and where do it get this kit at? Sears?

thanks

Sears has that. Being that it's a head stud, it may be pretty tight in there. If the Sears kit doesnt work, you'll prolly have to get it drilled out, welded and retapped.

I drilled one out and heli-coiled it. It's been fine ever since.

He's not talking about a head stud, apparently he's talking about an exhaust manifold stud. A head stud would be no problem to get out since you don't torque them into the deck, you just thread them in hand tight.

That said, there are many different ways to get it out, the easiest might be to remove the header and put vice grips on what's left of it.

thanks guys. i went to sears and got it the kit. i got it out but it took forever. Note to anyone, drill the hole straight as possible or else the stupid kit is very difficult and doesnt grip as well. I tried to drill straight but the drill was too long to fit in my engine bay, so the best i could do was at a slight angle.

thanks again!!

I think I just used a reverse drill bit on mine and it came out with no problem.
