I noticed a gap on the top cylinder in your pics between the iron sleeve and aluminum block. Is that a problem?

Nice.
The gap you see Hung is the side of the sleeve that is flat so it mates to the sleeve next to it. But there is no sleeve next to it. There is nothing under it so it will be fine.

this is a n00b question... what is so special about dart blocks?
ryanman
06-08-2005, 07:19 PM
They're just plain out badass, oh and a hell of alot stronger then any OEM block, improved oil control/passages, better cooling, lots of advantages over regular blocks.

Plus you can get them with a taller deck, so you can run more stroke than stock. The bottom end also won't flex as much as a stock block when you make a lot of power with it, and the cylinders won't move around if you stress it too much.
P.S. - Is that my block?

Yes. I doubt I will see another one in the near future. It gets bored and finish honed tomorrow, and then I can check the clearances and have the crank balanced. (Eagle forgets to mention that it isnt balanced when shipped) :(

So the rotating assembly finally made it there too? Holy crap, this is all coming together! My ITB's finally showed up this week (I'll post some pics after I get home from the beach), and Tony got the cam gear for the Hall Effect setup.
I figured that if I went ahead and started putting my old engine back in the car, then the parts for the new engine would finally arrive. I think that's just how life works.
Please keep posting pics as you get more done on it.

Jesus, the shipping has got to be pretty immense on this little project. I dig it though, I wish my car could get a dart block.
nice! what are the goals for the little monster?

Ballpark on total cost? Not too much. I shopped this build to several places around the country and Tobi was in the same price range as the other builders, who all came within a few hundred dollars of each other. It really depends on how crazy you want to go with it. By the time it is all over I'll probably spend in the neighborhood of $10K on the whole setup, but I'm really going overboard on it, 95mm lightweight crank, TWM ITB's, AEM EMS -w- Hall effect ignition triggers for the COP, head off of a pro car (-w- street valvetrain), etc. You could probably get a similar setup built with a sleeved/bored LS-VTEC 92mm stroker for a lot less. If you've got a few thousand bucks to blow, give Tobi a call, let him know what you want to use it for, he'll hook you up with whatever your budget will support.

Actually shipping is not bad if you don't ship a whole long block, which would require a pallet on a truck and cost a few hundred bucks. If you ship the head and short block separately, it can go via DHL for cheap.
nice! what are the goals for the little monster?I'm looking for about 250 WHP out of it, but it's not going to be set up for peak power, more for mid-range torque. I'll probably also put a 100-shot on it for drag racing, but the main reason for this engine is road course and autox.

probably because you should really balance the whole rotating assembly.

Yeah but they send you the whole rotating assembly in the same box.

I thought the Eagle people told me it was balanced from them. I guess at that price I should be happy all the correct pieces showed up. Is it much work to balance it?

There is a tag on the crank to assemble and clearance check the bottom end then disassemble and balance. They also told me there would be bearings in the kit but there are not. When I called them to ask about them yesterday they said that it does not come with bearings anymore. Arrrgh!

More delicious news for you McD. No one in the state has a torque plate for a Honda so I had to order one. That is going to add about 10 days to the build. Sorry.

That's cause Hondas don't make enough TQ to twist anything out of place.

That has nothing to do with it. It is about pre-loading the block, like the cylinder head would, to get a true finish hone, for better ring seal.

I know, I own a TQ plate for 4g63's. ;NutKick;
I was trying to get an arguement started with whatever dumbass was gonna argue with me about Hondas making TQ.

No big deal, after I get the dual sequential charger set up, I'll probably want to play with it for a bit anyway. If it's a big deal to get your hands on a deck plate, I know a guy locally that has one I could probably ship up there. He just got it to bore my old block to 84.5mm.
