hey i definitely haven't been on this site since i even moved to colorado last year, but i am in desparate need of help right now. my battery died and my hood wont pop (cable is attached but nothing happens with you pull the lever). but lucky me, my roommate very recently hit my car, so it is missing the grill and i have access to the hood mechanism. i just can't find a way to force the hood open. i drive a 98 jetta if that matters. any help would be appreciated
thanks guys

A pair of pliers should take care of that...temporarily.

yeah i've been out there with pliers/screwdrivers/penetrating oil for about 45 minutes.

You'll have to slice into the plastic jacket and then tug on the steel cable inside to get it to unlatch the hood.

thats a really good point but for right now, all i needed was to jump my car, and the hood was bent in the perfect place (next to the battery) so now i got it running fine. thanks for your help
