I always wondered how my Quaife worked. Now I have a better idea. Here's the guts being reassembled after I took it apart. They used red Loctite on the bolts that hold it together, I'm guessing they really didn't want me in here:

And if anyone observes that I didn't have the center section assembled properly in pics 4&5, I went back and fixed it later.

hmm looks simple enough, just wonder how the force actually looks up the diff and transfers power w/ those gears?

The middle piece has some disks in the middle of it that can push the middle gears out to either side. I think that is what controls the power distribution. I'd like to see the guts of a Honda LSD. The Quaife sales weasels say that theirs has more gears inside, which is why I should pay so much more for it, but it would be interesting to see if that's true.

you arent going to be using this one now though right? nothing like rebuilding/assembling transmission parts on the blacktop.

I cleaned it up before finally assembly. That was just to see how it went together. I had to take it apart to get all the big metal chunks out of it from something else that broke. Yeah, nothing like a bit of gravel in the tranny to smooth off all the rough edges.

I wasn't sure about the orientation of the spring washers, they fell out when I took it apart, so I guessed. I talked to the guy at Quaife today who repairs the diffs, and it turns out I guessed wrong. He was very helpful, so it looks like I'll be pulling it all apart again to re-orient the spring washers. A local shop saw the pics on another board and is wondering what the guts of their OBX diff looks like, so maybe I'll get to do a comparison.

Right on, now I know who to send my Quaife to for internal cleaning :)

As long as you don't mind voiding the warranty.
