so somebody lives down the street from me and i been lookin at this car for awhile

he claims the head gasket is shot and needs replaced which is like 100 + at a auto shop place zone / checkers

but instaltion is probally like 300 or more to put this part in

theres a few minor things also wrong the belts are gonna needed changed maybe soon

car has 74,432 miles on it

the cable to unhatch the hood needs a hard yank an is starting to drag above the left front tire that can be fixed with duck tape lol for now

and the hoods bracket? on one side is broke so the hood needs something the winsheild wiper is broke off but it can be glued or get a new one at a junk yard for cheap or i can replace the entire sterring cloumn

i don't even have my drivers lisence and wondering could this be a good way to learn how to drive and a few things about cars?

he wants 400 as is but if he gets the head gasket fixed he wants 600

can someone tell me if i should or should not buy this car i'm reallly dieing to know sounds like a lemon but the only major thing is the head gasket everything else can be rigged for temp

head gasket is going to cost a lot more than $300...probably double that depending on where you go. If you need your timing belt changed thats another couple hundred (if its ac/power steering belts then thats easy). If you dont mind working on your car yourself then it probably wouldn't be that bad, but if you are taking it to a shop to get it fixed id find a better car.

Here is a little tip from me to you. If a head gasket on any accord from 1983-1989 is "Blown". Run away from that car as fast as you can. Those engines are basically throw away motors if it ever has a head gasket failure. You will be putting new head gaskets on it until you get a new car and it will smoke worse and worse until the engine blows too. Save yourself a lot time and effort and find another car to learn on.

Good advice, had a friend have that exact series of problems, keep searching, if nothing else find a cheap shell and a good condition d series motor and you'll get yourself a reliable set up for less money
