I'm interested in what the games look like! The pics I've seen of a handful of games seem to be very breathtaking if they are indeed in-game graphics. I'm looking at picking one up in November

it looks really cool, but im pretty sure the ps3 will reign supreme. the ps3 will be faster, look better, and as usual have more support. Nonetheless, there both gonna rock. Ive heard that the nintendo revolution should also be pretty sweet as well

The xbox 360 has 3 3.2ghz cpu cores each capable of rendering 2 threads per instruction. This thing is going to be a beast.

I think the ps3 is going to be rushed. They just now decided to try and get it released around the same time as the xbox 360, but they don't have the development time microsoft did. It will be interesting to see what sony pulls off.

Right now the xbox is just awsome w/ the games they've showed thusfar. I can't wait to get my hands on Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I'd rather spend my money on an Xbox over any other gaming system. I haven't seen a side by side comparison of specs between the x360 and the ps3. But the x360 is damn close to photorealism which is more than enough for me. And I need Halo!

Looks neat! I'll be getting one for sure.. :) Sony is in some trouble money-wise...the recall on the PSP hasnt helped their reputation much in the community either..be interesting to see what happens anyway. I'm surprised they didnt use multiple Pentium M's in there....ah well.

But yeah, either way, its gonna be sick. The screen shots for Ghost Recon 3 look amazing. Plus the xbox live they said wasnt going to change much, which was wayyy better than PS online. Well just have to wait another 6 months. :(

Are you sure? PS2 isn't shit compared to Xbox. Rarely even play playstation anymore. Nintendo may as well go out of business. Please don't let them make another gamecube-

Yes, I realize Xbox > PS2. If u have heard about the cell chip, then thats the reason why. Here are the specs.
Operates at >4GHz and capable of >256GFLOPS
256KB Local Storage per SPU and 512KB L2 Cache (2.5MB total)
128+ concurrent transactions to memory per processor
High-speed internal element interconnect performing at 96B/cycle
234 million transistors
Prototype die size of 221mm^2
Fabricated with 90nm SOI process technology
Xbox only has 1 TFLOP and 512K. Supposedly the PS3 graphics card will be over 4x as strong as a 6800gt. If sony can create all of this, the ps3 will have the most powerful system by a long shot, hands down.
Either way, there going to be really badass, but the xbox 360 is coming out first, so they have the upper hand.

Either way, there going to be really badass, but the xbox 360 is coming out first, so they have the upper hand. Hmm i originally thought the cell proc was supposed to be a networked design to work amongst ps3's...
EDIT: I did a little reading, looks like the ps3 supposedly has those specs. I am curious though, didn't IBM do the proc for both the ps3 and x360?? Anyhow, that does seem like very hefty specs for the ps3, but that would put it at a performance level factors quicker than xbox. They would have seemed to have made some very close friends who worked in skunkworks type think tanks to have that kinda gap on the competition. Be interesting to see what kind of games the ps3 could deliver. But it also is going to be interesting to see what developers support more, proprietary ps3, or .net based x360... Hmmm...

It makes you think man. Dont get me wrong, i am DEFINATELY buying an xbox 360 for games like PGR3 and hopefully halo 3 (if they dont fuck it up this time), but the ps3 is gonna be sweet as well with possible launch games like mgs4 and gt5.

GT5? hahaha....why dont you go ahead and hold your breath untill you see it hit the shelves? How long did it take them to get GT3 to the stores after it was "announced" like 5 years...?

I still have my GT4 wrapped havent even opened it yet. I have recently bought the PSP and I think it is pretty kick ass. I never bought the 1st xbox so I might not buy the 360. I do how ever have every other system there is from atari to neo.geo pocket.

The PS3's Cell Processor is not even a good one if they would have stuck with the original plan by doing a Silicon Grpahics Cell processor then it would have been gold but I think last I heard was either a Motorola or Sony's own, which can't be very good since bith have only used Cell Processing for PDA's and not high end graphics machines like SGI...
Fuck the PS3 it took the Xbox to push them just to do HD... Xbox already had that and now that the Xbox 360 is coming with SDVD and HDDVD supported, the PS3 is going to be like the Gamecube was to the Xbox and PS2. The only thing I will consider the PS3 for is that is going to be able to play UMD (PSP Games and Movies) and it will have a Magic Gate memory stick slot. But other then that the Xbox 360 OWNZ!!! why:
Hmm still going to have a hard Drive, has a video processor cable of 512mb damn... and the CPU is sick and silicon mmmm
windows media extender built in, WTF... no you can use it as TiVO and to play your mp3's and live streaming via xbox live. ohh and not to forget it will be able to support up to 100 player multiplayer sessions.. man I am stoked...
Oh yeah and not to mention wireless controllers.. I'll take two thanks

did anyone see the mtv special on the new xbox? reminds me of why everybody with a brain hates that channel now. they unveil it and everybody starts clapping and "ooooh!" "wow!' *whistling!*, and it just sits there. They have bands, celebrites, etc. to make sure that all the retarded pre-teens that watch nowadays will be the first ones to buy it!
i saw some show or newspaper article talking about how everything on MTV is designed to sell stuff to kids, and im pretty sure this tops all thier previous movie and game specials.

The PS3 isn't going to be shit if you read the specs on the xbox360. The xbox 360 has a 3 core chip meaning is has THREE 3.2 ghz processors each rendering 2 threads per clock cycle. That's 9.6ghz of power giving it 1Tflop of processing power which is a hell of a lot more than 256gflops. Remember terra is bigger than gigga........
Go read the specs on the xbox360, then post.
Sony just now decided to rush the release of the ps3 to compete wit hthe xbox360 meaning they are cutting development short in order to get a product out there. The blue ray drives they plan to use aren't even out yet, and cost an arm and a leg to produce which is going to hurt them from a cost standpoint not to mention the fact that the industry hasn't decided if it will support blue ray or HD DVD format.
Add on top of that the fact that the xbox 360 has built in usb support, wireless network and ethernet along with the ability to record and play back digital media at HD resolutions and sony is in trouble. Did I mention that the xbox also connects up to home theatre pc's running windows media center? This thing is going to be a beast, and once some mod chips come out it is going to be a hell of an entertainment center on top of a great gaming system. I hope sony has some tricks left.................

I'll get them both, so I don't really care which is better, but I was really impressed with Xbox, and IF PS3 is better, I'll be shocked. Although, Sony does have the best controller design of all time. I hadn't looked at the specs because it seems like they have a gang of rumors at first of what it's going to have, so I waited a while. I mean, I heard the xbox 3 was supposed to have a modified version of the Apple G5 processor a long time ago, so...

i actually love the big xbox controllers versus their smaller ones. Now that the new xbox will even have smaller controllers is something I'll have to get used to hah. Regard the G5 statement, I believe your correct as the proc is PowerPC based. It's just simply sick how the x360 has 1 tfp of floating point power, that's approaching super computer territory!

The processor is actually an IBM design and architecture. They have been working on multi core processors for some time now, but this is teh first application I have seen. The old rumors of it being G5 based were just rumors :)

Eh... if brand goes anything like it is right now. I'd have to say that the graphics and overall power of the xbox is better... But PS2 in my personal opinon has MUCH better games. I must also dig myself out of the hole I have dug by explaining that in my personal opinion that half-life an CS are better than Halo (Again, my personal opinion) So I guess from what you all are pointing out in this thread is very helpful and very obvious that the xbox360 is going to be a much stronger unit but if they don't start pulling some GTA an GT4 type games for it... I'll still be a fond purchaser of the PS3.

I think the next installment of Forza is going to surpass the GT line of games, but we will have to wait and see. They do have a much more sophisticated physics engine in forza so that along with the killer power of the nex\w xbox should make for some killer driving games. Who knows. Both systems should have their strong points, I just think the tables are turning.

from what i've seen the processor itself in the ps3 only processes at 256gflops which is pretty slow, but the gpu is very fast at 2 teraflops. They say all the games on the ps3 will be natively 1080p resolution. I don't think there are any tv's out that even support that right now. Mine only does 1080i
smithz
05-16-2005, 10:05 PM
Correct, all current HDTV compatible tvs are *supposed* to support up to 1080i. I'm not sure if there are any yet that claim 1080p compatibility...

I agree. Microsoft just threw a bunch of shit together on the 1st xbox and it was sucessful. Now they are trying to throw more shit together, hoping it will work. They havent even designed a new processor, they just threw 3 top of the line processors together. The xbox 360 is a great system, no doubt, but sony actually actually made a video game system, rather than throwing shit together.

Xbox 360 is designed more for the whole family as an entertainment medium.
stats show just a few years from now MS will own more of the market then sony.

I will look into seeing what can be done with the new x360 platform. Hopefully a HD swap will be somewhat easy going after the new security points on the wafer can be found and bypassed :)
it will heavily depend on the games that will be coming out for the ps3, but i might pick one up as well. Definately going to get the x360 once that sucker is released though, can't wait for halo 3, along with a bunch of other games i'm already following info on :D
