Up for best cash offer - a 2ZZ-GE VVTL-i engine from a 2000 Toyota Celica GTS; basically the same engine that comes in the new Lotus Elise.

Here are the specs -

Type - inline-4; aluminum block & head
Valvetrain - DOHC 4-valve/cyl.; VVTL-i
Displacement [cc] - 1796
Bore & Stroke [mm] - 82.0 x 85.0
Compression Ratio - 11.5:1
Redline [rpm] - 7800

Max. Power - 180 at 7600
Max. Torque - 130 at 6800

I'm getting this sold for a repair shop. I will serve as the contact and seller; however, I have nothing invested in this deal, not do I have the ability to verify any facts on this engine. I will tell you that the shop is reputable and has been operating in the Boulder area for decades, and I have no reason to doubt any of the information stated below. I reserve the right to not tell you what shop the motor is sitting at for obvious reasons (ie, the owner doesn't want to get calls about it, nor possibly have his shop broken into). However, the engine is untested, and sold as is.

This is the information I was given:

"This motor is from a 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S with 45,608 miles on the clock at the time of accident. Vehicle was in a front-end collision. Cooling system was damaged. The auto service shop got the car from body shop and they had already removed the radiator and some other front end components. They could not get the engine to start, and brought the vehicle to us to try and get it to start. We found compression low on cyl. #2 (70PSI) and noticed puffs of vapor coming out of the radiator hose when cranking the motor.

We injected smoke into the radiator hose and it came out of the #2 spark plug hole. We suspect a problem with the head gasket, maybe more. Also, the spark plugs would get saturated with fuel when we tried to start the engine. We suspect the engine may have overheated due to being left running with a broken radiator immediately after the accident.

Ultimately, we installed a used engine for the customer and were able to get it running without problems, but the body shop has not finished the car yet. We could not verify everything because it still did not have a radiator, etc., and was not driveable.

We are selling the engine and accessory parts AS IS and are open to offers. If there are no acceptable offers, we will just sell it for scrap aluminum, etc."

I don't know specifically what is missing and what you'd need to slap this into another hybrid donor car, etc. I'm not a 2ZZ expert, or even a Toyota expert (although I do know a fair amount about the 3S-GTE). By the pics below, you'll see that it's missing -

intake manifold
spark plug wires
throttle body
intake tract/system
all (or most) electrical sensors
alternator
starter
flywheel
all accessory belts, most hoses
various nuts/fasteners for missing IM

- and possibly a few other things.

Post here if you HAVE CASH and are serious about buying it. Treat this as an Ebay auction; you can ask questions, and I'll try to answer them intelligently, but most of the information - if not all - is already posted here.

Call me at 720-938-1403, or email me directly at egbeater@gmail.com. I don't check PMs every single day here. And no, I won't allow you to come and pull the head and see if it's just a HG before you decide you want to buy it.

Two questions...

1) Will it fit in my 1990 Honda Prelude?
2) Do you take Monopoly money?

:D

Those engines don't take 10,000+ RPM misshifts very well. ;-)

What is that supposed to mean? There aren't many production motors that like being anywhere near 10,000 rpm under any conditions, unless it's a sport bike engine.

Two answers . . .

1) Yes.
2) Sure, do you take big fistfuls of Monopoly money shoved up your ass?

Well, Chris is just stating about how he blew his engine on his Celica by testing the 10k rev limit.

I dunno. I might if I got to see his eyes pop out of his head while I do it.

I'd personally prob. take a dick up my ass for the right price - like, a Saleen S7, a Ferrari F430, etc. Definitely a Porsche Carrera GT.

Anyhoo, the engine's pretty much sold to some guy in Texas. $500 shipped. He's made a Paypal deposi alreadyt, but he could always bag I guess.
