Oh yeah, Todd blew his first motor @ 8.5psi, so it got expensive for him really fast.

Crazy... is that a common problem with the Z engines? Did he ever figure out exactly why he threw 2 rods? 8.5 should be pretty low for that engine shouldn't it? Sorry I don't know much about your engine...

oh yea sorry for not explaining smithz, he blew his stock motor. 8.5 psi sub 11 a/f ratio @ 10.3 compression and it popped on him. Greddy has blown a LOT of motors, but so have SC kits such as ATI and Vortech, and even PE. Only kit that hasnt blown motors to date is the APS TT kit, but they lock you out of tuning, can only got to certified dealers for it's unichip. But for the most part people have been having really good luck with that. On a side note of the APS TT kit, 1 guy just ran a 11.6 1/4 mile on his stock engine @ 9 psi. They were running slicks though, had a 1.7 60'.

But people are still arguing a lot about what can be causing these things. From oil starvation resulting in spun bearings and throwing rods, to bad tunes (which most cases are). there's also been a documented case of the crank angle sensor wire throwing erratic signals at unpredictable times which has caused the ECU to advance timing to extremely dangers levels. APS was the first company to catch that one. Now most of the F/I guys rebuilding their motors are swapping out the cable for a shielded one.
