View Full Version : diff between SQ and SPL
wondering what the difference between the two were. And also wondering if anyone knew how good the Alpine Type R's are. Going to be 2 10's in a normal box

sq is more like the highs your speakers and subs put out and it sounds clean you can hear every music note, SPL is pure bass

SQ is sound quality. From what I know about it's as close to a flat response as you can get. Kevin will probably chime in in a few and correct me if I'm wrong. SPL is sound pressure level. SPL contests just measure how loud your stereo system can get in terms of dB.

in sq they test everything you can think of, speaker placment, surround sound, they test if you can hit all the frequency.its a tough and expensive sport I've seen cars with 4 $800 32 band eq's 4 set's of comp that run about $1200 each set. now spl is sound prssure level.they only test notes below like 80 hrtz in most case's.this sport is not as expensive as sq and by far not as hard

yea i dont plan on going crazy or anything, just want something that sounds nice, ive already had a system that was all about bass, but u cant even enjoy the music so im deff going for SQ, and yea if anyone has any input on a good low cost SQ system, thanks

u could go with the type r's for now in a nice sealed box.until you can get what you want.just make sure you go with some good clean power.NO CLASS D AMPS
why not d class i allways heard they were the best, and what do u mean "untill you can get what you want"

thoes replies are close enough tothe differences. however when someone asks for a lot of bass and plays rap music. SQ is a word i dont think fits with that type of system. noise is a better description, but making the noice sound clean is the challenge. SQ is a whole different story. that takes a lot of time and planning with the right components to get right.

image dynamics, adire audio, digital dynamics all good subs you might want to look into.. and if you want quality, run components in the front, and ditch the back speakers.
thanks for the input and yea i just want something that will sound good, ive already had the 2 15's and ive had my share of pure bass, but still looking for something that has some bass but also has good clarity, anyone know some good componet speakers?? thanks again

class d amps have the crapest bass for sq it's real sloppy, but for spl they are the best because the produce alot of power with very lillte current, check out termpro.com and the car sound &performance forums you should be able to get the answer you are looking for from people that compete in sq I could tell you about some thing's but not all I have never competed in sq
^ oo ok yea i knew that D class amps put out lots of bass, didnt know it was "sloppy" though, thanks again
is there a better size of speaker than another for sq

10"s or one 12" maybe 15" are a bit too much to get good sound quality with anything more than HipHop even techno sounds kinda crappy on a 15" even some 12"s.

10"-12" woofers in a sealed box is the best bet 15's are to heavy to move quickly for the punchy bass.
