Well its just a factory 1980 subaru DL i think.the badge says it has the 1600cc motor but there is a different motor in the back i need to put in is and that might be the 1800cc motor. but i wanna either moddify the old motor im pulling out and hop it up or like put a newwer turbo motor ro a wrx motor. Far as i know i should be able to swap pretty much any engine from the 80's into the car. but i wanna make it a rally car for fun time.

Are you positive that it's AWD?

Friend of mine had one from early 80's back in the day, and it was only FWD.

Yes well technically subaru didnt have awd drive cars in the early 80 they were 4wd cause they have a 4wd selector u have to put the car in 4wd
and so i know this car does

I would bet that for most of the 80 models a WRX engine swap is out of the question since they used inline four engines back then, later they went to the boxer design which has rather significantly different space requirements. But what the hell do I know? :)

i am pretty sure the engine is a boxer design..... and it looks like all the engine and trans were similar right to the end of the 80's so i could get a or build a turbo motor from like a legacy turbo car

I worked on a 86 Subaru STD - it was had a boxer engine.
I think I have an irregular heart beat from the 400 times I was shocked by that car.

i know they made early turbo models of the legacy wether or not they will fit however is something else.... your looking at a lot of plumbing and eletrical work... doesnt that model also have the spare tire in the engine compartment? im looking to turbo my wagon um here is a good site that might have a little more info for u about older subarus... : http://www.ultimatesubaru.net/forum/ ; http://www.legacycentral.org/library.htm
