Any information would be help ful.

Thanks for your time.

I would like to get into a toyota ae86, I would like to start with a small light car. One i can beat the hell out of first before any more power.

What are you drifting??

hey i will be there after the damn solo event. maybe on the 24th we will drift solo. but in the mean time, we can find elsewhere. i really want to tear up the tracks there. man it'll be so wierd with the left hand drive.

but yea it is true. learn to drift an ae86, and anything else is too easy to drift. i finally learned or had the courage to try higher speed drifting, and it is so much easier. but i tried an 180sx and it was like drifting on water in the 86. felt almost like cheating lol. well have fun and i cant wait to get home!!!

with this being the season opener for 05 auto-x, there will be about 250-300 drivers, but not more then 5 people that'll be drifting around the course. most of these people do it for fast times. i'm just there to practice for driftshowoff.

driftshowoff if a compitition for amateur drifters. last year there was only 21 drivers, they limit it to 40 drivers, registration is open for it as i speak. falken brought out like four of their cars and ryes millen came out with his gto, it was good fun.

here's a big ass picture of me there.

Having the driftshowoff is a bid deal i would say, having the ability to get any one that wants to drift in this area together. For the sport of drifting only being in the US for the last three years (or so), i think it is starting to take off.

I am going to showing up on sat, but 7 am is not when i will be there. I don't know how to place the pictures like you have, could i have a little bit of knowledge. I could show you my car.

Later man.

No offense, but I've never seen anyone drift on a road course and not be killing thier lap time as a result. Certain super tight autocross corners can be another story though.

That's the joy of road course weekends where real experience is required... no drifting, no Hondas pulling the e-brake in an attempt to drift, etc. You should give it a try.

But I must admit... it is somewhat satisfying to so easily own the noobs on a public track day. :D

you guys forget what drift is all about. it is not about lap times and shit. it is about having fun. trying to stay consistent with yourself in every corner you take. and in competitions, who times you? nobody!! they judge your speed, angle, and consistency.

cant wait to get home and tear up your car 2.

Because I'm busy building my car; unless you're willing to pay to have my cams rush made overnighted to me from Australia and handle all of the fabrication and assemble and blueprint the engine, it's going to take a while until it's race ready. Once the new drivetrain goes in you better beleive I'll be out there every chance I get racing in the ITE class. Furthermore, Erron is a great driver and has been doing this for decently long time, he offered to take me out and teach me what he can about handling a 3/S on the roadcourse. Learning from someone with several victories under his belt is an opportunity I won't willingly pass up, no matter how good I think I am.

And I'll talk all the shit I want, just like I do to the ricers with huge spoilers. Drifting is just another lame ass fad, like super trendy pre-ruined clothes.

That's what real racing is about, as well. However you get timed, not judged on how much tire smoke you can make. Consistency and speed are what win races. The same goes in bracket racing. Drifting is like a beauty pageant, racing is like a strong man competition.

And when you get back you're more then welcome to come find me on the drag strip or road course. Unfortunately we can't have a drift off because I'm putting some degree of effort into making my car actually handle well.

doctorstupid: Give Time Trials (http://www.sccatimetrials.org) a try... it's a great opportunity to get a lot of seat time and get the car sorted out, before you jump into Club Racing and have to worry about position. It's cheaper too. I'll be hanging out there for this season while finishing the car prep (still procrastinating on getting a cage), then I'll join you guys in ITE next season... :)

Oh for sure, I have a lot of trial and error to sort out with my car to get it set up properly and get good at handling it with the big boys. Lots of learning and practicing needs to be done, I'm just lucky enough that Erron is racing the same platform very successfully and is willing to teach and lend a hand. Plus his car is bad ass, and I'll never turn down a free ride in a badass car.

Weston, you can get cages pretty cheap, an 8 point bar for my car is around $150, and the 12 point cage upgrade is about $100 extra. I can't possibly imagine it would be more for a Honda. Welding it in well enough to trust your life to is another story, once I improve my TIG welding a bit I'll put my own in. If I need it before I trust my own welds that much, I know several people who will do it for a good price. I'm just going start with the 8 point since that's the minimum, and go to the 12 once I get a bit better and faster (it welds in to an existing 8 point, pretty convenient that it doesn't require recaging the car)

Sorry my excuses aren't sufficient for you, sts2poc1, but it's rather tricky to race your own car when there remains no remnant of a drivetrain anywhere in the car (actually the driveshaft is in the rear seat, but that doesn't help much). So at the moment a ride-along in a near identical car with a good driver is all I have.

Weston
04-06-2005, 10:51 PM
Interesting... where are you getting such cages from? I assume it's a GCR legal design when properly welded in, right?

Indeed you can... hell, I've done it. Twice. On the same course. Same day. Same spot. Then some jerk in a white Integra videotaped it. :D Well... okay, that's sort of drifting...

I've made several mentions to Josh that his wheel bearings are in need of replacing, or close to it. I don't think he took my advice all that serious, though.

"Drifting is like a beauty pageant", with 100+ corner entry speeds.

if you don't know than don't talk down about it, i think it comes down to car controll and resonse.

Not tire smoke, that is just a by product!

He'll learn when he's driving down the road and a wheel falls off. Assuming you do it yourself, the cost to replace them is about $50 for each new bearing, and you absolutely need to use a press to replace them.

Actually, it's more like "ice dancing"... Some people call it a sport, others laugh at those who do. As for the "100+ corner entry speeds", that doesn't mean anything... any noob can go into a corner way too hot, and as a result, get forced into an incredibly shitty line and end up scrubbing off all kinds of speed. It's nothing to brag about. It can sometimes be a useful thing to do when you lose your brakes at the end of a straight and you need to drop a lot of speed, but that's about it. A skilled racer chooses to slow down to the optimal entry speed even though most clowns can manage to turn in at a much higher speed. The difference between the racer and the clown is that the racer carries more speed through the turn, and on a better line, which results in a lower time through the turn and a higher exit speed. The clown then goes off and brags about his entry speed, never mind the fact that he got schooled pretty badly.

From I70 or E470 exit to Peņa Boulevard eastbound heading towards DIA. Continue east for about 4 miles to Jackson Gap Road (the rental car return exit). Exit at Jackson Gap and turn right (south). Jackson Gap Road will turn to the left (east), and become East 71st Avenue. When you reach Robertsdale Road you will see the lot to the south-east at the intersection of 71st and Robertsdale Road. To get to the entrance, turn right (south) on Robertsdale Road, left (east) on 68th Ave and left (north) again on Valley Head Street. Enter only on the northeast entrance of the lot, the third gate you pass on the east side of the lot

Thanks for the info Weston. Yeah as you can tell from the vid... That car I treated like hell knowing that the majority of it was going to be replace. I bought it in pretty shitty condition, figured it'd finish it off before I started fixing :D

Blew a hole in the block about 5 inches tall by 3 inches wide about a month ago an now the new project engine is in an will be running tomorrow. As for suspension... I love playin' with that, so probably all new stuff will be thrown on in the next little bit. Hubs included.
