Hey, thanks for talking to me earlier on the phone. I drove around and made a few phone calls to local car audio shops in Tucson. Seems like all the 10" MTX 8500's are going for 350ish, and as of right now I really wanna do 2 of them in a ported box. Also I checked out the Class D amps. but wasnt exactly sure which model to look for to run the 2 subs. So maybe you could help me pick out a 4 channel and mono amp to run the subs and we could try and work out a deal to either ship it to Arizona or I could pay you to make it if you are free (im 100 percent sure I want my system done right this time and im 100 percent sure you're just the guy to ask about all of this)

thanks again for everything, now and in the future.

cool, i can get you the 8510-44 wich is a dual 4 ohm sub for 220.00 but you really need the single 4 ohm coil if you are planning to run 2 of them. ill have to check availability on the 8510-04

as for the amp the 801-D will run you 300 bucks and has 800 watts of power

the 4 channel amp would be the 404 for 200 bucks

as for the box. i dont know yet because i have to design it in the computer and i dont now how big we are talking yet. also i need some measurements of the trunk. the other issue to work out is how large of a box we can phisically put in the trunk depending on the opening. you will have to give me another call to work out the details. i want to make sure it will fit.
if your interested in saving the shipping charges and feel like making a drive i could do a whole custom trunk setup in a weekend fully carpeted or finished in whatever you like. you could save the shipping costs and put them into installation if you want it done right. i juist need to be able to reserve a weekend to work on it and your welcome to stay here over night.
just a thought, let me know

You are to generous. All those prices are great and the info is even better.

I would love to have it done by you but due to the lengthy drive and my work schedule on the weekends, I dont think I would be able to make it up to your location until Early June.

Im sure my trunk could handle the box, but the opening to get it in there might be an issue. I do have a larger opening if i take out the drivers seat and fold down my rears and push it through the back. I may have time to take a few measurements tonight.

Worse case scenario we just change to a smaller setup that will fit for sure, or I find somebody good down here in Tucson who can work with the parts.

i unfortunately dont think i will be able to make the long drive up there due to my need to be at work every weekend. :(

i would however love to see if we can work out a box to fit in the measurements as described above. If its not possible to build a box for that size im sure we can work out another system.

let me know what you think.

thanks,
Jay

Go to MTX.com and they can show you which amps go with subs and ways to wire them.

i did, but had a hard time understanding everything. Hence why i contacted Kevin. I also asked a few people with the 92-95 generation civics, and i dont think the truck size could have changed to greatly. I might be able to take a few measurements of my friends cars to find out.

Also, if i had the measurements of that box I could tell if it could fit into my trunk.

Just a thought a friend of mine built a box in his trunk makes it harder to steal as well :D

hey preludeshfan, in general, how much do you charge to do a trunk setup (IE box and place to mount the amps)

a complete box with carpeted panels to match the trunk runs about 5-800 bux amps flush mounted in amprack or similar setup.
it usually takes a weekend

yea, i wish i could have him do that but i know i just cant make the drive.

what are your thoughts kevin, should i try my luck and find someone here in town to install the parts, or do you think you could make a box that would fit into my trunk?

well part of me says that i could do it and ship to you. the other part reminds me of how much of a pain in the ass it is to get to the UPS store with a 100 pound box. i can have it picked up from my office. also i need to go buy a box and shipping material to pack it in.
all of these things can be done it just takes time/

also i checked with my sources and they do not have the single coil sub in stock and from the sounds of it may not for a while. so you might have to resort to ebay or somthing if you want a good price on thoes subs.

you can find some pics of installs i have done here http://216.71.119.227/pictures_of_stuff.htm

maz087 you could get somthing similar to this if you had the time to drive here but i know thats not easy for you. perhaps on a weekend that there is some holiday your off of work to give you a little extra time.

man, those installs are perfectly done too. Trust me, if i could clear up I would drive out in a heartbeat, but the restaraunt i work at is open every day of the year and Im one of only 3 cooks and it would take weeks to train another person to cook 700 steaks a night.

i certainly dont want to inconvenience you by making a box and having to prepare it for shipping, i can see that being a total pain in the ass. let me figure out EXACTLY what i can get for my car before we commit to doing any shipping or buiding.

I was wondering if you thought maybe one 12 would be a little more suited for my little coupe, or perhaps doing one 9500 instead of 2 8500's. Im not really sure, im open to any suggestions. Feel free to PM me also, this isnt really a typical thread on HAI, more like a long term, distant conversation.

Thanks,
Jay

it really depends, 2 10's will have a lot more bass than 1 12 will. also height becomes an issue. you said that the lowest point of the trunk is 14 inches. i like to recess (make flush) the subs so they dont stick out. that means you have a little less than 2 inches between top and bottom of the box to fit that sub. i think 10's really are the way to go. if you want to do 1 single 10 that could work and perhaps a small amp rack off to 1 side to fill out the look.

also if you went with a single 10 you could get away with a single 5 channel amp to run the whole system. that would cost you 300 for the amp, 220 for the sub and your nearly done.

i dont see that much of a bennifit from the 9500 in your application it will take more power to reach its potential. and that will cost you more in the amplifier

well, i had 2 10's in my car before with a ported box, and i really liked the level of bass as opposed to when i had just one. Then i sold them because i wanted something better and was hitting the track and wanted that weight out. Now im doing it over again and really just want something bigger and better, so going to just one 10, would be sort of disappointing, so i really think i want to go with 2 10's. I checked ebay, no 8510-04's. I guess i just need to sit back and re-think everything, lol, im more confused now then when i called you.

well like before the sub, 220, the amp 300, the box i would want 250 for. that has to be built out of MDF and ill have to make it with dado joints to handle the pressure of that sub.
