I just did a compression test on my car(B18C1GSR turbo) and it's not good. With 10:1 compression piston, the gauge on the compression test should be at 200psi +-20 all around. But my car only read 125 all across 4 pistons. The car have a little bit of oil is comming out of the exhaust, spark plug is black(carbon desposit)after a month, the car idle weird (drop down to 500rpm and shoot up to 1100rpm many time). I don't know what's wrong but it doesn't feel like the same car I drove 2 month ago. I want to do a leak down test but have no clue on how to. If you guys can help that be great. I think it's my piston rings or head gasket that is blown. But if my rings is blown why does all the piston read 125psi, shouldn't it vary of different result.

check the head gasket, pistons rings and the valves. the most common i have seen is a bent or cracked valve.

Did you remove the fuel injection fuse and hold the throttle plate open when you did the compression test? I have a little switch with clips that I attach to the battery and the solenoid terminals, that way I can test it with the car off from under the hood where I can hold the throttle plate open. It cost me $10.

Where are you located? If you are in Denver then those numbers dont sound too bad. If you had a serious problem with the HG or rings then one or two of those cylinders would show 80psi or less. I dont think I have ever seen a car with 10:1 go over 200 compression on a dry test. They normally sit between 150 and 170.

Yes, I've remove the 15amp fuse next to the battery. I follow instruction from http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/comptest/comptest.php.

I'm located in Lakewood. Hey tobi, how to do you charge to do some test on the car (leak down test)? why is my car only showing 125psi when normal it should be in the 150+? Is it my HG,rings, valve? thankyou for your help.

Those directions should work. Sometimes people forget to open the throttle plate, which will cause it to read low.

The car read a little higher once it warm up completly (fans goes on twice). this is how it read
cyl 1 cyl 2 cyl 3 cyl 4
150psi 150psi 150psi 130psi

after that I add a little oil into the cyl. and wow the psi jump up to 180 all across.
Good thing is the piston rings not broken off. I think they're just worn after years of NOS abuse and mileage.
Any1 know how much labor it cost to replace pistons, rods, and rings?
I can problably take out the head and pistons myself but it problably best if the professional do it.
What's easy, taking out the whole motor and work on it or taking the head and oil pan to get to the pistons?
Machine shop cost to balance and blue print the motor?
Thankyou for your help

You'll have to remove the engine anyway so it can get bored/honed. When I had mine done I just pulled the whole engine, then disassembled it, then dropped it off at the machine shop. They checked everything out, machined and replaced parts as necessary, then assembled it. I just had to bolt everything back in. As far as what you need to get done, I'd recommend consult your engine builder about that. Just let them know what your objectives are for the engine and they should be able to help you with your options.

How much did it cost you in labor from the machine shop and what got done.
I don't want to spend more than $1500 for labor for my car. I'm starting to make a list of what to buy for my car.

I had mine sleeved, all forged internals, new cams, new crank, head work, valves, springs, etc, so it was pretty expensive. If you're just getting it rebuilt, it shouldn't be too much. I think $1500 should cover the labor.

Yeah, I'm just getting forged pistons, rods, blockguard,HG,and all the gasket seal needed. Everythings else will probably be stock. Since my horsepower goal is only 250-300 hp.
Thanks alot rmcdaniels.
