Around NC there arent but so many different types of systems to chose from. We have some good shops that do decent jobs but i've seen better since i travel. Im buying a friend some woofers for his car and i narrowed it downt to these two which is the better choice.

The mtx 9500 is 1000watt rms it ;Slap:'s all rokford, jl, kicker stuff any day. I have had a kicker 15" stroker, 15" JL w7 / w6, 15" old school Punch, 15" Highfonics zeus, and a 15" punch Power omung others sizes the MTX is sick I have heard a pair of 8"s that sounded like damn 15"s The are a reasonable priced speaker that would smash the comp! You could buy one 10, 12, 15 that would sound like 3 of the other brands!

I used to have two Rockford 12" DVC subs from back in the day (5yrs) sitting in my trunk. They were powered by a 250a2 amp w/ around 190 watts RMS running through each. It could hit hard if I played around with the eq.
They're still working just fine right now. I decided to go with one 12" for space (RF 12" w/ RF amp) reasons. I gave those to my sister....and they still sound awesome!
Just my experience with Fosgate.

in tucson we have a shop that sells sony, alpine, fosgate, boston, and kenwood, and ive been able to listen to all their subs right next to each other in various sizes that travel all around this circle room. i thought for sure that fosgate was the best. then i drove accross town to a shop that sells MTX and JL, and i never thought twice again about spending money on those other brands, in every way its worth it to save for the good stuff.

I might just go back and get the Kicker Solo Baric 12" L7. It depends on the size of the box needed though.
I want something to hit very hard when I want it to.

Had a fosgate for quality hooked it up in the parking lot at the old one on the fax drove to wads and pop went the cheap ass speaker took that ish back right away! Don't get me wrong old school fosgate ish is tough I have had a single 15" and 4 12"s the ones that are all black and say the punch in black

I guess I over-stated. I'm not looking to win comps or nothing. I'm used to the 2 12" subs, so it get's old without it.
I'm gonna go with the Kicker L7 cause I've heard so many people stand by them & give them praise. Including sales men at places that DON'T sell Kicker products.
I just need to find a way to adjust the sub. Maybe an EQ or something. I'm stuck with the factory deck, which only has a 3 band (kinda) Bass (-6 to 6), Mids (same) & Treble (same). That's weak compared to the deck I had in the Honda.
I NEED the ability to adjust the bass coming directly from the sub without effecting the other speakers in the car. Unfortunately....I'm car audio illiterate. Gotta go searching!

Most amps now come with an adjustable gain control that you can mount some where near you.

I'm gonna have to check into that. Some CD's just don't hit as hard as others.
Say I'm playing KoRn...which hits really friggin hard. Then I switch to something like Chevelle....which doesn't hit as hard....but SHOULD!
On my old deck, I could play with the settings to get the subs to hit hard for Chevelle. With this setup....I can't cause the deck is just too simple!
Unfortunately, I can't swap out to a new deck cause the CD player is integrated with the climate controls on this car. The mounting surface is combined for both! That sux!

check out digital designs one of my favorite's. anyone seen the team rockford woofer's? the motor's are as big as a 5 gallon bucket (round wise) and the solo-x is a bad mutha, resenant engineering, audioque woofers are great to and cheap about $250 for a 12" that will handle about 5000 watts for daily driving.I can go on and on and on and on. anyways I run 4 15" L7's with about 1000 watts each and they pound

the size of a woofers magnet or motor structure means nothing. its just another way to justify you paying through the nose for the sub.
so many people buy subs with their eyes not their ears.
once the steele of the motor is saturated magneticly with lines of flux the bigger, or more magnet area has little to do with the strength of the sub. also if you over power the motor you will cause the sub to become overdamped. it will hurt the proformance rather than help it.
the funny part about caraudio is that people buy subs like DD and resonant because they handle so much power. more power means bigger amps and more $$$.
you can attain the same thing with lesser subs if you know what your doing. the problem is that manufacturers build what the public will buy, not what works better for less cost.

more power=more bump you can't put one of these fosgate starter woofer's on 1000 watts and expect it to last.like you said they build what the public will buy.and you get what you pay for.you pay $100 for 2 or you pay $600 for 1 bet mine will last longer with double the power. me I compete and need the best woofer's and the best amps that's just my opinion.
