i have a 96 gsr in 94 civ which blows blake smoke what could it be running rich or burning oil

More than likely, it's runnig rich. What injectors do you have? Do you have a VAFC to tune with?

It could be alot of things that can cause your exhaust to blow black smoke. could be blown piston ring, internal problem (piston, valve), incorrect camshaft timming, aftermaket fuel pump, clog air filter etc.. all in which can cause it to blow black smoke. go back to when it started to blow black smoke. Did you rev the hell out of it the day before? have you clean the air filter? have you check the compression on the engine? hope that help. (probablly not)
