My timing belt tensioner doesn't seem to work any more. I just tried adjusting it and it immediately got so loose my intake cam gear skipped three teeth when I revved it up. It's only got 10,000 miles on it. Do they go bad that quickly? Hopefully my valves are okay, I'll have to run a compression check later.

That's scarey, what type of tensioner does that engine use? Just a little spring piece of shit?

spring loaded idler pulley
compression test is good, after it stops raining I'll do a leakdown on it

Finally got it off of there, it was dirty, a little corroded, and sticking. It's cleaned, lubed, and reinstalled now, and everything is much better. Leakdown test is good, and it runs much smoother from a cold start now. I think this thing has been causing problems for a while now, it's probably the reason for my inconsistent idle issues. I need to get my tuner in it again and clean up things a bit and I think it'll be perfect.

Did you change the spring?

Did you change the spring?
No, but it works fine now and I'll be keeping an eye on it. I may just buy a new tensioner and replace it just for the peace of mind.

I would replace it, that's just one of those things that's not worth taking a risk with, you know? :)

Yeah, it about scared the crap out of me when the intake cam skipped.
