raced a cobra last night with an extremely loud blower, it was a good race and I thought I had him then at around 60 mph or so the cobra blew past me with extreme acceleration. guy said it runs 12's and said that he had never seen a volvo that fast before. this was in arvada, anyone know this car? it was green I think

i think its awesome that you were able to hold up to a sc cobra, my friend has one of the N/A cobras, and even that is pretty fast. way to go

I seen a SC cobra get Dyno'd and they lay down the HP ...thats for sure.

hmm... with a good amount of bolt on I got worked by my roomates STI when he had only a exhaust.
He raced a SC Mustang the other night (not sure if it was a GT or a Cobra) and pulled on the Stang.

^ Your friend must have a lot more than exhaust on their STI. I could of gave STIBungy a run for his money when he just had exhaust.
I ran against a Green SVT Cobra a long time ago when I had first got my car. I knew before hand I would get jacked up but wanted to see how that thing launched. It was a site to see, that sucker just dropped and took off and spanked me like a hot chick wanting it. And the guy was running stock (asian guy too lol). Last time I was at Dynopro there was a blue one dynoing before me. Layed down 440 hp modded of course. But the power curve on those things is simply sick, not to mention the output. It's always nice to have 8 cylinders :)

I actually beat him off the line and held him off until maybe 60-70 mph, then he blasted past me as though I was going in reverse. I will be the 1st to admit it when I get smoked and this was by far the worst I have ever been beaten, other than a few quick bikes at bandimere.
You think he was just messing with you for the begining?

Not really, now he has UTEC. With my new trubo I can walk him now :)

straight up, I even had a few friends with me. I talked to the cobra owner and thats what he said. the car looks stock but is quite the contrary.

maybe, but I think I just got off the line better. I preloaded to 2k. the volvos torque curve begins with 240tq at 2000rpm @10psi boost. Im running 14psi. btw, my car is an Automatic.

I've taken a few '03+ Cobras, but even they have me for a bit. I can't get traction until 3rd gear now with my setup.

You need to try some different tires then...lol I have 540 ft/lbs to the tire and have OK traction. Well, 1st and 2nd don't work so I dont race from a dig...lol

DnVr: Yup, same Stang. I'm not sure of the power----it put down 471hp/462 tq on a Mustang dyno, (which is supposedly 8-12% off of a regular dyno). I've got to get it dyno'd on a regular dyno.
Sambandit: I've got Nitto 555 285/35/18's on the rear. I can't get on it at all in first, and when the boost kicks on in second the rear end breaks loose. 3rd is good, however. I've also got 3.73's and a T-56.
I WON'T take off the traction control.

I work with a guy that has a 97 cobra and hes slightly geared and he runs mid 14's off the bottle....12's on it but still

yep sorry i was wrong about pre 2003 cobras, but 1/4 info still stands, it appears the NA cobras are advertised as running a 14.1 sec
damn, ran into another one on the highway, guy said it laid down 450 to the wheels. needless to say the outcome, but the green one seemed alot faster.

Gearing is a big deal on those cars but showroom stock they were more of a low 15 second car;I was beating those with my Eclipse with only a 2.5" catback.
I'm glad Cobras finally have the respectability that the name represents. 400whp is easily attainable with a an exhaust and filter and beat Z06s;gotta love factory boosted cars.

I couldn't even get mt old 01 Cobra to run better than 15.3 with a couple mods. They DEFINATELY need 4:10s or something!

I'm surprised you've gotten two Cobras to play! Not many out there take the Swedish bricks seriously, especially pony car owners.
Good job taking the first one 'til 60. Off the line is definitely not the strong suit of these cars - between the Turbo lag and the lack of traction they're tricky to launch, though your Automatic is probably a bit more consistent.
turbo lag? most arent turboed unless they are seriously modded. i thought he was talking about a NA cobra.

I was referring to the turbo in his Volvo. The Cobra he went against was SC'd, which is why it's amazing he was able to beat it up to 60.
