1.8t question

Has anyone had any problems with the acc. belts on a 1.8t? It's a 2001 Jetta... a coworker of mines is making a weird noise... she took it to the dealership and walked out with a $500 bill and the problem not fixed. Is the belt hard to replace or tighten up?

it probably just needs to be tightened, which shouldn't be that hard.

Well if she walked out and it wasn't fixed then it's her own fault for not saying anything to them about it. Take it back, have them fix it.

Did the stealership replace the tensioner?

Ok, so I took a look at her motor today, took me forever to find the freaking problem. I pulled the cover off the timing belt and it's the timing belt that is chattering. She has 90k miles on the car. The service manual says it should be checked at 100,000 and replaced at 105,000 miles. If anyone has any information that I should know about let me know. :)

Yea I won't be doing it... the engine bay looks like a nightmare to work in.

The noise might be a bearing going out. thats what happened on my girls 1.8T. If can try to pinpoint where the noise is coming from, you should be able to tell what is going. It could be a tensioner or maybe even the waterpump....who knows.
