I should be putting around 270-300whp as soon as I get a clutch that can handle it (and some tuning). I couldn't resist turning up the boost, and I smoked my clutch. I was thinking about an exedy stage 2 ceramic clutch w/ exedy flywheel, but I don't know if that is enough. It says 80% increase, which would be about 370 cranck horsepower, I'm not sure about torque. I'd like to see about 350whp when I'm all done, and that would put me over the limit of this clutch, so how accurate are these increases? Anyone have any experience with this clutch? I also thought about an exedy hypersingle, but that might be overkill for me. Another option woud be an ACT Xtreme pressure plate w/ street strip disc, and an exedy flywheel. Any help would be appreciated. I like the exedy flywheel because it's 8.5 lbs, chromoly, and I can get it for cheaper than most of the other ones; but I'm not stuck on it. Same goes for clutches, I can get a good deal on exedy, but if something will work better I'd like to know.

If I were you I'd go with an ACT, they give actual torque handling numbers for their clutches, none of this percent bullshit (which really means nothing, it's a claimed increase in clamping force not torque handling). ACT's puck clutches are pretty aggressive, the engagement may be a bit harsh for something on the street, The Xtreme plate with a full-faced disc is pretty well proven. For the SR20 it's rated to 449ft/lbs.

I just helped a friend put in the Exedy setup with a Fidanza flywheel and it works well, but he's running a stock GSR with a little boost. The sprung hub disk on the Exedy setup makes it really easy to drive for a puck-type disk. There's still a little chatter sometimes, but engagement is pretty smooth. I run the ACT Xtreme pressure plate with the ACT 6-puck solid hub disk and Chrome-moly flywheel. That setup took me a couple of days to figure out how to drive smoothly, but it's very streetable and drives pretty smoothly now that I've gotten used to it, plus it's about bulletproof and I regularly take it to the track and abuse it. I'm currently making about 300 lb/ft of torque.

For puck clutches, SouthBend's DXD disc is a sprung 6 puck that's available in about 4 different compunds, it's a very popular clutch for 3/S. I may make more power than my ACT HeavyDuty/full face combo can support (495ft/lbs), and they don't offer anything higher for me, so I'm considering using the ACT plate with a DXD disc since the ACT plate provides about 3,200lbs of clamping force whereas the DXD plate is only about 2,400. Most clutch companies sell parts individually, so mix-and-matching is a very real option :)

I've been looking more into it, and I'll probably go with an ACT 6 puck and HD pressure plate w/ fidanza flywheel. It's the same set up I used to have on my CRX, and it was very streetable, but before I bought anything I just wanted some feed back. Thanks

I would say go for the exedy. I have never heard anything bad about those.

We just had the founder of competition clutch down at the shop showing us his products and what they're all about. He used to be the product designer for ACT, but their relationship ended for some reason or another, but his clutches look really nice, and they're priced VERY competitivly. I don't have the price sheet in front of me for the SR20DET, but I think I remember the one for your car that it sounds like you need being $450.

Strip Series 1620 Clutch Kit
The CC Strip 1620 series kit is the ultimate road and track performance kit. This assembly allows for ease of gear transition and smoother take off. Strip Series 1620 is designed for street or track use for vehicles with a 150-250% increase in torque capacity. This unit reduces unwanted heat and increases holding capacity.

The 1620 kit includes a performance Competition Clutch pressure plate, a 6 pad long-life ceramic high-torque performance sprung disc assembly, all applicable bearings and the appropriate alignment tool.

The advantage of this disc over the ACT is that its sprung and won't chatter like an ACT 6 puck will, which is always a plus for street driving.

I already bought a ACT 6 puck, but thanks for the help. I also bought a fidanza flywheel, so hopefully soon it will be in and I can get back on the road. I'll keep you guys updated.
