Hey everybody, im a newb in tuning, but ive always loved cars and done a ton of reading. I just bought a 94 Civic with a 99 B16 in it. it has some mods, but i am thinking of taking the next step and turboing it. i was looking on ebay and saw that you could piece together a kit for about 800-1000 bucks.
i was wondering about the quality of some of the stuff on ebay. a turbo, blow off valve and wastegate for 395 bucks? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=7951384606&rd=1

Also, i saw these turbo manifolds http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=7950593295&rd=1
so yeah, it seems like a killer deal for this stuff. any input would be greatly appreciated. also, if you know of a plave to get a cheap turbo kit, let me know. thanks a lot

oh yeah, and i know i need fuel stuff too, like new injectors, and a fuel pressure reg. i have a VAFC on it right now, so will that be good enough, or will i need a pump and other stuff? thanks again

Do a search on this board and some others. You'll find that ssautochrome is crap.

Yeah man, those products is what i was asking about just a few days ago. Check it out, you'll see why they're cheap. http://www.highaltitudeimports.com/t27143-xs-power.html

I think that the manifold is ok, i've heard from some people that have it but who know's.

The quality of all those items is poor, which is why they are so cheap. On a stock '99 B16, which is the engine I used to have, I'd run a small turbo like a T3 (remanufactured Garrett T3 Super 60's sell for around 350 with a wastegate), and a decent cast manifold like a Revhard (200-300 from Camp 1320), decent downpipe (100-150), and some good injectors (RC 550's sell for about 250/set). That setup should give you great response and good power. Of course there are some other components, oil lines/filter, FMIC, fuel pump, etc., but that's all cheap stuff. Then get someone who knows what they are doing to tune your VAFC on a dyno with a wideband.

oh, by the way, do you know of a good shop with a dyno that is close to the Boulder area? im not exactly sure if my vtec is kickin in or not, so i want to take it to a dyno to make sure. also i would need someone to tune the car if i do get it turboed. i heard that red line does good work, but im not sure where they are or anything about them. thanks for the info.

For dyno tuning, Tobi (Honda Ghandi) is right down the road from you in Arvada. I've never used him for aything more than free advice (I live in NC), but I've heard great things about him and he does seem to know what he's talking about (the free advice has been very accurate). For VTEC activation I made a VTEC indicator light, got the instructions off of Google and a it only took a couple bucks worth of Radio Shack parts, plus I now have a snappy blue LED in my dash that lights up when I hit VTEC.

I believe the correct order is boost it, blow it up, then build it.

I disagree with that...

$100 says this guy doesn't even have a boosted car

yea and its kinda hard to blow one up anyways. LS's can still take 20 psi all day long.

It's so funny how everyone talks about how a motor can take xx amount of psi, or 'build it before it blows up'. I know that a built motor won't handle 5psi if it doesn't have TUNING. Let's not forget this very important area guys...

I blew up my original B16 on 11 PSI, all it takes is too little fuel.

What he said. Build it (pistons, rods, maybe new crank, then replace the seals and rings, and then of course the cylinder head gasket) all this stuff will go bad whilst boosting. *First hand experience*
