I am kind of confused as to my future, and was wondering if people in the IT/computer field would possibly let me shadow them for a day? I want to see what it's like and such, talk about how they got their job, what they would recommend, etc... it's time for me to start checking out some possible careers.

i think, if you like working with computers or write software - go for it, don't look at others. it actually may give you a distorted view. you would only want to select what you'd rather be doing - hardware support, system administration or development. but from personal experience i can say you can change your main specialisation later. also it helps to master something really good. like if you choose development, select a language/OS which you like most, and become a pro there. and you won't have problems.

what kind of field within IT are you looking at job shadowing?
Instead of shadowing do this...
How many people on HAI work on computers?
How many people of that subset post all throughout the day?

hey, Roger, are you in IT as well?Yeah, I'm a Solutions Architect. I do pre-sales consulting and design on internetwork infrastructure and network security solutions for Dimension Data. Most days I like it, and the money is good.
EDIT - I'm CCIE #5153 if that means anything to you.

that's a cool job in my understanding!
that's a Cisco certificate you carry? the number actually doesn't tell me anything, but pretty much any Cisco certificate is an object of desire for me ;)
reason i asked was that i was under impression that you are in the military, something you mentioned in our early conversations

iirc, Justin went to Westwood and said good things about it.
Just avoid ITT Tech unless you want to end up teaching the teachers (and paying for it). What a waste of my time and money. I really wish I would have chosen another school.

I have done just about anything and everything under the tech sun...after 15+ years in the field, I am back to doing Tech support again....nothing like talking to 20+ pissed off people because they lack the capacity to RTFM or even worse, the product you are supporting sucks ass in the first place...
My advice to you is to run like hell from the tech industry and get an Arts degree in something completely worthless. That way to can go into any field you want and are not locked into anything that requires you to take 5 days of training that will be obsolete in 6 months...
My retroactive future position will be a farmer, growing corn or peanuts...either that or a hitman...yea....a hitman sounds good..... :)

You could come watch me for a day, though things around here really aren't interesting on days we don't go bowling or do something.
