Tobi, question came from a friend of a friend... of mine.

that's gotta be a european '97 Civic i think. he has a D15Z6 (vtec) engine. there's a knoсking sound in one of the cylinders, he says it happens mostly when the engine is cold, almost goes away when he revvs on a warm engine. also goes away if he disconnects spark plug in one cylinder. mileage approx 100k.
what is it most likely?

Thanks!

p.s. editing a typo ;)

Its either a rod bearing or a wrist pin. Sometimes the rod bolts like to back out on those motors making the caps loose. I wouldnt rev it if I were him but if its knocking already then she doesnt have much longer to live anyway. I would start hunting for a replacement or saving for a rebuild.
