That's correct, although it is technically only for CMC club members (they usually just don't enforce that). It looks like I wont be able to make it this year because of work...

I am heading out now. Just say you are in SCCA and they will not even check. I am but they don't check. If you try and show them, they don't care. Cmon out. edit- you NEED a helmet, they care about that.

Any stipulations for those who have never been on a track? Do they require some sort of class, or certification before they allow somebody on the course?

I googled Second Creek, but I couldn't get the web site to load. Is there a checklist to go by before heading to the track? ie: Things on or in the vehicle to inspect or certain things to bring (helmet: check) w/ me?

I've never had my car on a track, but wouldn't mind trying out....there's a first time for everything.

all you need is a helmet and thats pretty much it. Make sure the brakes are good condition. It would be a good idea to flush out the brake fluid, and replace it. Good tires if you have if not its not a big deal.

Open track days require no race licensing or car safety prep. You need a motorcyle helmet or better, some common sense, and a car that doesn't leak or create any other hazards on the track. Your brakes absolutely must be in good working order, with plenty of life left on the pads and rotors (you will go through them fast). I would strongly recommend performance street/track pads of good quality (Axxis Ultimate, Hawk HP+, etc) and fresh DOT4+ brake fluid. When your brakes start to fade, exit the track and drive around in the parking lot to cool them off. Do not stop the car until they are back to regular operating temperature.

Start out slow... get comfortable and then go faster when you're ready. If you find yourself trying to force the car to do something or have a white-knuckled "death grip" on the steering wheel, then you are being too aggressive and need to back off. You need to be comfortable with everything you do on the track. Driving the car too hard will only result in slow lap times, more abuse on the car, and less control over it.

Be very aware of other cars around you, especially any motorcycles on the course. If a car appears in your mirrors out of nowhere, then he is faster and will pass you, so yield to him and signal him to go by. Be looking far ahead too, as there may be hazards in your path such as stalled or slower cars. Do not pass someone unless they know you are there and will be passing them there. If you don't know what the other driver is going to do, wait for a better opportunity to pass him safely.

:werd: Thanx!

Another question....Since I'm going to remove the subs & amp...should I go ahead and remove the rear seat? Does it make that much of a difference?

Hey, I've been thinking about going also... but from the springs its a long drive. I'd be willing to roll down if I could do my damn oil change.. (don't have tools). Grrr... I wanna go so bad! I don't think it would be worth the hassle to remove your rear seats... The rear seats wont weigh that much...

Second Creek is open year round isn't it?

I have some serious brake over-hauling to do. Maybe even a rear disc conversion w/ the 40/40 Teg prop valve. My brakes are in bad shape...which would hinder me from attending the free week.

If it's open year round though...I could go after the brakes are done.

Yeah, it'll be open until November, 2005. It's just free for this week only.

What's the normal entry fee?

S15SiLVia
12-29-2004, 02:53 PM
$60, but there is a group deal. If you go with 5 people you can buy a lapper card for $240 and spilt it between the people. which equals to $48.

just got back from 2nd creek today. it was super fun. its actually almost more fun when theres soooo many cars on the track. it just sucks when you get stuck behind someone who's slow in the corners, but you can't pass on the straights, because your car is underpowered. lol.

anyway, if you've been 'thinking' about going all week, definetly get your ass up and go. you've only got 2 days left!!!

oh, also, they're asking for $5 donations for the new track. so, if you're feeling generous, give em' $10, because we need that new track once 2nd creek gets shut down.

oh, and if you're new, and you're afraid to go, don't be. people are very friendly. just ask someone that looks more experienced, and they'll most likely give you some pointers. there are a lot of first timers there, so you won't be alone.

also, they split it up into 3 groups. 1st is slower car group. this is for normal people, pretty much no matter what car you drive. 2nd is experienced. this is for people with actual race experience (not just solo II), and 3rd group is motorcycles.

The $5 donations are for a dead guy, not a track.
