View Full Version : Possible?

Okay...I'm not the mechanical guru like some around here...but I've been pondering the idea (w/ some research) of doing a head swap on my 97 Accord SE. It's stock right now...F22B2 non Vtec w/ AT.
I was wondering if anyone out there w/ the proper Honda knowledge (Tobi & the like) could give me their input on this?
I'd like to (if possible) purchase a F22A head (Vtec), have it P&P w/ a 3 angle VJ AND have .020 ~ .030 (if possible) milled off. I'd also like to get the the IM plenum & runners honed out, P&P for max flow & have it port matched to a H23 throttle body. All this w/ the proper hardware necessary to do the Vtec x-over of course. (ecu, wiring & what not)
Is this a worthwhile venture? Would it be best to stick w/ a non Vtec F22A head to avoid complication? I'm looking for better throttle response and a few extra ponies for a more enjoyable DD w/out killing my transmission like forced induction would more than likely do. I'm also trying to keep it under or around 1K$. I can find most of the hardware on a few different forums I'm a member of. I just haven't checked on the machine work...as I wasn't sure if this was even feasible yet.
Any input or advice is greatly appreciated!

P&P, 3 angle and mill will cost you around $500 in machine work. Labor to do the work would be another $400-500 easily. It is possible and I have seen it done but the car was less than impressive. I would spend my money on suspension or stereo on an A/T accord IMHO.

I have a stereo and my suspension isn't bad. Not the best...but not horrible!
I had planned on pulling the head off myself, then taking it to the machine shop. A friend of mine was going to help/show me on honing the IM & port matching it to the H23 throttle body.
As far as being impressive....cmon now...you drive an overall impressive car! I drive....an Accord maing! It's not even on the same continent (120hp?) as impressive! HaHa
So...even if I used the F22B2 head & IM (on the car now)....having that work done wouldn't be worth the time huh? Bummer.

I drive accords every day. And I wasnt impressed with this one. The guy didnt like it either after the work was all done. He saved up and did an H swap and boosted it a year later.

Not a fan of it. It's a preference thing.
Okay...then how about this question gents!
What kind of car would you guys suggest I get. Here are the stipulations though: I stand 6'3 and would have to be able to sit straight up without my head hitting the ceiling of the car. I'm also a big motherfu*#er! So I'd need shoulder room! If possible...something w/ a telscoping steering wheel as I'm seriously tired of my knees hitting the friggin steering wheel when I shift! I'm not rich either...so none of that BMW (Break My Wallet) isht either. Something I can work on...as I'm learning as I go here.
Hit me with what ya suggest!

73 caddy...S2000? That's it?
I can't fit in the S2000...and wouldn't pay for a caddy. This is disconcerting.

Doesn't the A4 have several electrical & suspension problems?

That's just from what I've read. I have no personal experience with them.
I'm still considering the 02' IS300. It's roomy enough for my big azz, and from what I've researched...it has potential.
