What are the advantages to having 2 piece rotors?

Two piece rotors usually use an aluminum hat, reducing overall rotor weight.

They also allow the rotor to expand and contract with heat, separately from the hat. This helps keep the rotor from warping since it is not anchored in four or five places like a conventional one piece. Another advantage is less heat transferred to the hub and wheel bearing.

It also reduces wallet weight.
Like most other rotor "upgrades", it's pointless on the street, nothing special on the track, and too expensive for a real track car (go through rotors like kleenex).

Unnecessarily too.

The AEM 2-piece rotors had a bad tendency to warp, it was so bad they changed their rotors to one piece.
