i think the difference between a no-name CAI and a brand-name one is subtle. brand-name one could be easier to install, will probably fit better, but performance-wise I think any of those won't be 1-2 hp different between each other. difference is between a short-ram and a cai, as far as i understand, also difference is which brand is the filter itself (versus the brand of complete intake tube).

edit: basically, i'm saying - don't waste too much money on the lable of your intake ;)

I've used AEM V2 CAI, regular AEM CAI, cheap ebay CAI, and a cheap ebay short ram. None appeared to make much difference, except the ebay cheapies had really crappy filters. The only place I've seen those make a significant difference is on cars with really restrictive intake systems, like higher end cars that have a lot of baffles in their intake to reduce noise.

Now I use a homemeade 2.75" made from Jegs stainless J-bends, silicone couplers, and hose clamps with a K&N filter, but my underhood setup is not quite stock any more. Personally I'd make my own out of stainless (less heat transfer with stainless), but I think a cheaper and easier solution would be to get a cheap ebay CAI and buy a good K&N filter for it.

The other thing to do is to make sure you line the hole the CAI goes through, otherwise it will rattle and rub and eventually wear a hole if your CAI is aluminum. My AEM CAI's came with a cheap little rubber piece for it, but it sucked. I ended up taking a piece of fuel line and slitting it down one side with a razor blade, then putting it over the metal edge around the hole. That works great and is holding up well.

you learn something new every day! I was going to wrap my CAI with a rubber piece, but I really like your idea, Roger.

You don't need a air filter.

^Yeah. The REAL power is found in gravel injection.

Gravel is just like NAWS, as the gravel runs through the intake runners it ports them out by taking chunks of material off the walls and making the runners bigger and also when it gets into the cylinder it tends to "knock" down the piston height and lowers compression and therfor you can run more boost. True story, no boosheet.

any intake that attaches to some sort of pressurization system is the only way to go...CAI are all a waste of money....

I use a CAI because under my hood gets hot with the turbo stuff in there.
