My battery keeps dying.
Is it better to rev up the engine to charge the battery or just let it idle for a while?

It wil charge faster off idle. If it keeps dying then there is probably somethig wrong with the charging system or the battery itself to begin with.

A cheap $10 multimeter can tell you which it is, in about 30 seconds, for sure. Buying a battery if you don't really need one is silly.

hook up a dmm and see what the voltage is with the car running. it should be up near 13.8, if not you have something wrong. If it is, turn your car off and monitor the voltage (with the car off you are watching the battery), if the voltage does not stay above 12.5 (ish, i'm not sure) you battery is shot.

Auto parts places will test that stuff for free, I know Advance does.
