Sheet metal? How about aluminum, if you are building a drag car?

Brandon

sure aluminum works. i just remember calling it sheet metal in metals class, sorry ;)

i just can't find any pictures online because when you look for anything race oriented with the word dash all you get is hits related to dash racing (if that's what those quick races are called?).

You can order them premade.

whats the point of that? custom gauges and accessories? weight reduction?

Are you building a full race car or something?

Nah, the dash he has is ugly. ;) His Storm is too slow still to be called a race car.

well of the 3, i'd say i was thinking the 2nd picture is most like what i was thinking but definately the ugliest.
i like the idea of a new fiberglass dash but it's so much work. i have a fiberglass dash now but it was one of my first projects when i didn't know what i was doing and the thing weighs probably 40lbs.
the main purpose of change is because my existing dash is getting a few cracks in it, and it weighs so much. im also going to be putting in a rollcage with a-pillar bars and after that, removing the existing dash would be impossible without removing the windshield (im not sure if that would even allow removal). with all the wires and everything else under the dash, im just not sure if i want to make the dash a permanent thing.

it's not a full race car yet but the plates are way past expiration, i wouldn't pass emissions, the last few times it's left the driveway it has been on a trailer and doesn't have insurance to drive on the street. and yes, it's slow. ;)

heres how it is now

I thought by now you would have a clone of Steve Locket's dash :)

do you mean from the factory or was a stab at the people that have modded storms?

either way, none taken. if you meant from the factory then it's a given that none are fast (duh?).

Rob, i totally forgot about Steve's. i have a ton of pictures of his car and never even thought about it. His doesn't look as hideous as the one above. thanx
edit: you got that pic from my site lol

I think of all the people on this whole board, Dustin is the one to worry about most (as far as not being as fast as him) but I'm sure he's just giving you a hard time.

Brandon

lol you too.

doesn't look like ill probably be racing there anyway. i just found out to race in the class that i wanted to race in, you have to have solid axles (no independent suspension). weak.

Or you can be a trendsetter like me.

No dash. :)

http://www.coloradoneons.com/chris/racecar/random2/DSCN0868.JPG

Of course that is a racecar. No gauges yet, but still there probably won't be a dash. I can't find any rule in the NHRA rulebook that requires one, so I won't have one. Just lots of metal unibody surrounding me.

Brandon

but if i copied you, i wouldn't be much of a trendsetter ;)

Technically I'm not a trendsetter until someone copies me. :)

nice, your going for an all out trailer drag car next year I take? any new "go fast" goodies?

chrisbarnett01

It is a completly different car. This one will be NA with a 2.4 from a Stratus, individual throttle bodies and some 472 lift cams, vs 320 or so stock lift. Around 2 points more compression. Should be minimum 220 whp in a 1700 lb car. Fully built automatic tranny, etc.

I'm going to run it in Run Tuff. The turbo RT will still be around for Street Sport Compact.
